Some hate on this thread about mayweather and I do agree to a point but mayweather also was an all time great. He did take some opportunistic fights but he came up from LW all the way to MW and won every title along the way. Do I think prime Pac-Man and Prime Oscar and prime Mosley beat him? Probably. I thought cotto did very well and cotto was old ODLH did well and he was old too but you can’t discount those wins. Fighters today aren’t on that level. They just think they are.

It’s the Bob Arum effect.

He likes to artificially build up his fighters with showcase fights and to keep everything in-house. He also likes to marinate fights and, when a boxer loses, he loves having a reason to pay them less afterwards.

Pretty sure Floyd never had one fight at 160 doe. I think he topped at 154 and always came 2 pounds lighter on average.

De La Hoya was old - Oscar was the A-side
Marquez was 2 divsions lower - I got nothing
Mosley was old - Shane avoided Floyd for a tooth
Canelo was Green and drained - Floyd was 36, ffs
Pacman was not near his peak, been beating multiple times already - Manny ducked Floyd for 5 years
McGregor was a name - A cash grab that any sane person woupd have taken. Why even mention McGregor?

One Maidana in his "prime" and Mayweather struggles needing a rematch. - Chino could have been DQ'd a couple of times in that fight. Floyd still beat him twice

When your the top earners like Floyd, ODLH, Pacquiao, Canelo etc.. you can pick and choose your fights because you bring the money.

What hurts is guys like Tank and Crawford who aren’t big draws barely fighting once a year and not making the fights that will bring in eyes to the sport and make the most money. Bud wasted his prime earning years hiding behind Arum and Top Rank being unable to get him big fights. He chose that path.

Now boxing is desperate and needs gimmick fights lime Paul/Tyson to get mainstream eyes and it’s literally killing the sport.
