That is due primarily to his extensive knowlege of boxing itself. Nobody can accuse RJJ of not knowing anything. Sometimes however; I question some of his statements. In the Daniel Santos V.S. Antonio Margarito fight, (I believe it was) he claimed that "Taller fighters have a tendency to fight on the inside". I suppose this is true, but I question as to which fighter(s) he was talking about. He makes statements and does not follow through.

his predictions are almost always on cue though,

He said that Oscar shouldnt come out with this fast paced against Sturm because he never fought at that high of a weight and if he doesnt get him out there early then he will be in trouble because he will get tired quick and thats what happened. He said in the middle of the first Zab and Spinks fight that Zab has figured him out and there is nothing Spinks can do about it because Zab can do more things and everything better. Of course Zab blew it (even though I thought he won) but in the second fight Zab KO him.

In everyone of these cases Merchant has disagreed with him but Roy has always been right. He knows his stuff in and out the ring
good ones. remember hopkins- allen 3? roy said "allen's been open for an overhand all night and its just a matter of time before hopkins catches him with it"
next thing you know allen hits the canvas from an overhand
even lampley said "thats amazing roy"
i think its great that roy brings that knowledge to commentating cause larry and jim would never see **** like that.

teddy atlas is still god though

Since the beginning I never liked seeing larry Merchant. There's something weird about him.

Larry gives hope to all senile alcoholics who want to blabber on national TV...

IMO Larry is why many people hate boxing, he's irritating and has no perspective on the game, many of my friends won't watch HBO fights anymore, strictly because of Larry

                  lol

This is one of the best threads of all time. It feels like home. People finally see what a jackoff Larry is. I can't say I'd replace him though because I like drama on TV.

The only drama is how off-the-wall his comments will be, & how drunk he'll be during the interviews, he doesn't put his hand on the fighter's shoulders to be gracious, he's trying to stay balanced.... a two-man crew of Lamps and Roy would do just fine

I seem to remember when he said that Michael Grant was definitly going to KO dominick guinn.
