you don't need experience in sparring.

do you guys know what sparring is for?

      1. it's to get some rounds in to get in shape.

      2. it's for the sparring partner to move/act like the opponent somewhat to practice tactics on.

      3. to get used to a certain height/weight/reach of an opponent.

you don't need experience to do that.

porter has what 10-15 pro fights and 300 amateur fights? that's good enough for a sparring partner.

fucking michelle is sparring with his cousin pedro and his friend juan for god's sake and you're talking about pacquiao sparring with a middleweight that has over 300 fights under his belt and is a golden gloves/world championships champion.

Pro is different from amateur. What i'm saying is, if you have acquired the experience like Coto fighting WW fighters at such a high level--you're able to utilize you're overall physical attributes. Because Porter has not done that--he's probably not as effective with his own physical attributes as he will be in years to come.

really? i didn't know that. glad you told me pro is different from the amateurs.

pacquiao should get elite level sparring partners.

why do these ****** fighters always get young prospects to be their sparring partners? dumb.

people should hire top 10 p4p fighters and champions as sparring partners.

roach should get mosley or mayweather to spar with pacquiao.

Nice straw man. Anyways, Pacquiao has sparred with champions but from different weight divisions--Linares(Former champion) and Israel Vazquez so it's out of the realm of possibility sparring with guys with a little bit more experience? heh. But that's hard given most established fighters don't train with others near their weight division. So you take what you can get.

It wouldnt be the end of the world for pac if he was down in sparring as long as he produces it against Cotto. But being decked in your sparring sessions is usually a bad omen and sign.
Tyson was reportedly decked in sparring at least once if im right.

It really dosent matter if PAC kills porter while sparring. All that says is that PAC> Porter. Dont you think all fighters dominate thier sparring partners during trainning camp? I would hope so, but just because you dominate a guy you pay to imitate the guy you will fight dosent mean you garunteed suscess. You could knock out 10 sparring partners and then get KOed in 1st round of your fight.

And like ive said time and time again. This is the biggest fight of PACs carrer. With more money involve than ever most likely. Do you really think these sparring sessions are no holds barred? You would have to be a fool if the enviroment isnt controlled to a certain extent.

                  1. i don't really care if he knocked down porter or not.

                  2. this is not the biggest fight of pacquiao's career. pacquiao has fought better fighters and had bigger wins than miguel cotto.

only reason it's a big deal on pac's resume is because of the paper belt involved and the weight class.

                    Pacman floors sparmate twice
By Abac Cordero (The Philippine Star) Updated October 17, 2009 12:00 AM

                    Manny Pacquiao Andy Zapata Jr.
MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao flooring Shawn Porter twice in sparring last Thursday doesn’t mean much for his chief trainer, Freddie Roach.

“Nothing,” said the three-time Trainer of the Year over the phone yesterday from Baguio City, right after another heavy, non-sparring day at the Shape Up Gym.

“It only means that he’s ready for the fight and that he’s doing very well,” Roach told The STAR, saying that Porter, the undefeated 21-year-old junior middleweight was floored twice by Pacquiao.

Roach said Pacquiao sparred four rounds with Porter, and caught the big and burly native of Ohio, a 2007 National Golden Gloves champion, with two powerful lefts in the third round of their skirmish.

“Yes, Shawn went down twice but he came back very well and caught Manny with a good hook. He came back very well,” said Roach, adding that Pacquiao also sparred four rounds with Jose Luis Castillo.

An Internet report said Castillo, the former WBC lightweight champion who came very close to beating Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2002, had blood on his nose after sparring with the hard-hitting Filipino.

As of Thursday, Pacquiao has logged a total of 46 rounds of sparring, and as the rounds increase to 10 and 12 over the next few days, he should have close to 150 rounds on the book before training ends.

Roach said Pacquiao has decided to cut short his stay in Baguio by a day. He said they should be in Manila on the evening of Thursday, instead of Friday, and train two days in a local gym before flying to Los Angeles on Saturday evening.

“It’s a little hectic coming down so we pushed the date a day ahead,” said Roach, referring to the terrible road conditions from Baguio all the way down to Manila due to the recent spate of typhoons to hit the country.

Pacquiao will hold sparring today against Porter and Castillo, who seemed to have impressed Roach with his style.

“I like his style because he likes to come in and tends to lean forward,” said Roach, close to saying that Castillo, who had two memorable fights with the late Diego Corrales, fights like Cotto.

A few days ago, there was a thread at Pacand, the highly popular Pacquiao website, saying that the Filipino pound-for-pound champion got knocked down in sparring.

But Nonoy Neri of Team Pacquiao was quick to brush it aside.

“Nothing like that. No knockdowns,” he said.

Not until Thursday, when Porter, not Pacquiao, hit the floor. Not once but twice.
how can pac be knocking down porter but not knocking down castillo
