Case in point, Cecilia Breakhus, a first ballot HOF fighter, had JB train her after her falling out with her prior trainer Abel Sanchez over money. Cecilia didn’t want to pay Sanchez his 10% fee of her purse, so she went cheap and hired JB in her two fights with McCaskill. Wlad and GGG (Abel Sanchez) also didn’t want to pay their trainers a just fee.
Now let’s be clear, McCaskill was a wild fighter who would be a counter punchers dream fight., yet Cecilia fought McCaskill’s fight twice and lost twice because JB had no clue that you box an aggressive fighter. Cecilia stood there and exchanged with McCaskill instead of using her boxing skills while taking a half step back and countering. McCaskill is so open for a counter when she throws her wild punches and JB never was able to figure out something as basic as that.
In the Breakhus McCaskill rematch, nothing changed. How in the world can you call yourself a trainer when you can’t formulate a winning strategy against McCaskill that is so obvious?
Wlad v AJ. Wlad had AJ out and took his foot off the gas when JB implored him to stick to the jab. I can hear Manny telling Wlad, finish him now if Manny were still alive. There was absolutely no urgency from JB after Wlad had AJ out.
JB is a yes man who gets opportunities because he accepts below average trainer fees. Wlad, Cecilia, and GGG paid the ultimate price by going cheap and giving no regard to having a trainer who actually knows how to put a winning strategy together.
To be honest, Eubanks Jr, who’s a B level fighter at best, and not even a fraction of his father who had balls so big you’d need a wheel barrel to carry them, will pay the price for hiring JB if and when he faces a legit opponent like Canelo, Crawford, Tszyu, etc. Eubank’s is just looking for the check and could care less about winning when he decides to hire JB. You get what you pay for is the lesson to be learned. Would the owner of Secretariat put a novice to ride him in a major race when no matter what, in horse racing a jockey and trainer get 10% each of the purse and that’s not negotiable.
Looking back, Wlad, Cecilia, and GGG paid the ultimate price by hiring JB on the cheap. It cost these fighters millions for their foolish decisions.
It takes a fool to learn!
