Andre Ward’s Super Six Tournament domination was more impressive than calslappy’s whole career…Ward would dominate calslappy…I don't think Joe Calzaghe is ether overrated or underrated 'they say that when certain fighters retire? Over time their feats achieved and resume, will increase with prestige. This has been the case with fighters such as Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, and Floyd Mayweather Junior. Year upon year, those three fighter's resumes get stronger and stronger'.
Joe Calzaghe at the time of his retirement, was underrated in my opinion 'he was long reigning world champion, and overcame all of the obstacles put in front of him first time of asking. And the facts are? He beat many former world champions during his reign, or fighters who went on to win World titles'.
Note: I have always stated that his resume was underrated. Joe Calzaghe at Middle and Super Middle Weight has better wins skill for skill arguable than Canelo Alvarez in those weight Divisions. A part from Gennady Golovkin, none of the fighters who Alvarez has beaten during his Middle to Super Middle Weight titles reigns are better than Calzaghe's wins over Chris Eubank Senior or Mikkel Kessler'.
Then you have fighters on Joe Calzaghe's resume such as Robin Reid, Jeff Lacy, Charles Brewer, Bryon Mitchell, Sakio Bika and Richie Woodhall 'All former World Champions who Joe Calzaghe beat during his Super Middle Weight reigns'.
In 2025, I think the appreciation of Joe Calzaghe as a fighter has peaked 'or reached a peak. More people within boxing acknowledge that he was a great fighter, and for sure? Was competing during a era in the Middle to Super Middle Weight Divisions that were by far stronger than now'.
I don't think a fighter like Terrence Crawford in the latter stages of his career 'would be able to just suddenly decide, to move up into the 168 pound divisions back in the 2000's and beat Joe Calzaghe. Terrence Crawford is a great fighter but? In my opinion he would not be able to beat Joe Calzaghe, Carl Froch or even the version of Chris Eubank Senior in the very latter stages of his career that Calzaghe beat'.
To conclude: So overall I would say, Joe Calzaghe is rated just about right at this moment in time 'he was a long reigning champion, who defended his title many times. Joe Calzaghe when he beat Mikkel Kessler became technically the Undisputed Super Middle Weight Champion. Joe Calzaghe won all the major titles in the 168 pound divisions during his career, the Lineal Ring Magazine, WBA, WBO, WBC, and IBF titles' etc.

Andre Ward's Super Middle Weight era was not as great as the boxing era which Joe Calzaghe competed in 'the late 90's and 2000's were a fairly solid 168 pound boxing era. Andre Ward came into the game, during the latter parts of that era'.
But I will say this? Andre Ward's Super Middle Weight era was still superior to Canelo Alvarez's era in talent and ability. Since the conclusion of the 90's, in my opinion both the Middle and Super Middle Weight boxing divisions have been decreasing in talent and ability'.
Note: Andre Ward was never the Undisputed Super Middle Weight Champion like Joe Calzaghe 'Ward unlike Calzaghe did not win all the title belts. Andre Ward defended his 168 pound titles 6 times, Joe Calzaghe defended his titles a total of 21 times before he moved up into the 175 pound divisions to challenge both Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Junior'.
So as a Champion Joe Calzaghe defended his World titles a higher number of times than Andre Ward 'and if you really analyse his resume, it is of a higher quality than Andre Ward's. Calzaghe in my opinion has an overall greater resume than Ward'.
Andre Ward did not dominate the 168 pound divisions 'as soon as he became one of the premier champions he was gone out of the division. He best wins are against a dead at the weight Chad Dawson, a injured Mikkel Kessler and then Carl Froch in a very underwhelming fight'.
To conclude: I think a fight between Andre Ward and Joe Calzaghe would be a close fight to call 'but I would imagine, if they did collided in their careers. Joe Calzaghe would not be rated a big underdog in the fight, Andre Ward does not have the attributes to intimidated Joe Calzaghe'.
Joe Calzaghe has fought and beaten by far more powerful punchers, and durable fighters in the Super Middle Weight Divisions; 'such as Chris Eubank Senior and Robin Reed'.
I don't really like speaking about hypothetical match ups all that much, but I would not be super surprised of Joe Calzaghe was able to beat Andre Ward 'peak vs peak in the Super Middle Weight Divisions'.
Andre Ward's peak really should have been at 175 pounds 'but I don't really think we truly witnessed the maximum of his abilities. Andre Ward quite simply did not have the fighters around him talented enough to push him beyond his limits'.
Andre Ward is definitively an all-time great fighter 'but he had quite underwhelming career at times, I don't think he has been involved in any truly great fights. Whereas Joe Calzaghe was involved in great fights, Chris Eubank Senior vs Joe Calzaghe was one of the last great Super Middle Weight fights of the 90's' etc.

Those names you mentioned are laughable…past prime Roy…BHOP and Eubank Sr. he only felt safe against past prime opponents with a name…Andre Ward faced guys in their prime and closer to it…his Super Six run is way more impressive…

It's weird. I remember catching a bunch of Joe Calzaghe fights since watching him maul Jeff Lacy, however don't remember much of them after. They just weren't performances that left a great a memory. At least not like when he had Jeff Lacy trapped in the corner and he was dropping some combinations and Lacy's face was pouring blood. That was something, but was also a very 1 dimensional Jeff Lacy whose whole gimmick was in his damn nickname (Left Hook). If you took that away, he had nothing.Comment
