Comments Thread For: Chris Algieri's School of Thought: The middleweight division needs Janibek Alimkhanuly back to his best

On paper, Janibek Alimkhanuly has to be considered the best middleweight in the world. I stress "on paper", because it's been a while since he's made the nature of statement that earns a fighter that sort of title - which is partly due to a year passing since he last fought, because earlier in 2024 he failed to make weight.

What the Middleweight division needs is more talent, potential stars, exciting rivalries.

He'd better hurry up and fight Adames if he wants a big fight at 160. It won't be long before he loses to any random fighter because he killed himself making weight , or he has to move up.

It's unfortunate for160 that all of the best 154 lb fighters seem able to make 54 without much trouble and there is no one at 160 a big enough star to make them move up for a big fight. It's a boxing dead zone.

It's crazy that one of the premier weight classes is so dead like this. It's been that way for awhile.

Crawford vs Adames is guaranteed a good fight.

Agree. All big money fights and excitement is at 154. Difficult to get excited about Alimkhanuly.
He looked promising some time ago but of kind of never really translated.

Yeah, it could be years before the division has a change of faces, new faces and additional talent added.

I just can't get excited with Zhanibek. He has very solid fundamentals and gas tank but too basic for my taste. Maybe it's about the man infront of him and he doesn't need more than 1-2 to win. Maybe he needs someone like Adames so he need to dig deep and show what he is made of.
