  • Why Dancing Is Seen As THE BEST Footwork

The real metric of effective footwork is control of the center of the ring

A seek & destroy takes the center away to cut the ring off

A dancer will keep it circling around the center

Henry Armstrong Joe Frazier Julio Cesar Chavez all had highly effective footwork.

But it’s guys who can fight on the back foot that would first be mentioned as having the best footwork

idk dancer implies rhythm. the best fighter has no rhythm. floyd fights with no rhythm on purpose.

        Coordination
        Stamina
        Dexterity
And just to put a fighter in that headspace/mind set where he performs at his best ?

just look at floyd and look at his feet, he has no rhythm, no bounce. he still has great footwork, great positioning. yeah someone like paquaio or cotto or ali has a bounce in their step. some really great fighters have great rhythm and will throw shots off rhythm too in order to throw fighters off.... but having no bounce in the first place makes it even harder to anticipate punches.

or roy jones if you watch him move, sometimes he has no rhythm or other times hes moving with a rhythm but its changing so rapidly, broken rhythm i guess, so its too hard to predict. has the same concept as guys who will vary the power of their punches like Usyk so you never know if its a soft punch or hard punch coming.

I do agree that 'runners' needn't automatically be credited as having better footwork than come-forward fighters as they often are, if that's what you mean. Ultimately it's about being effective, not what's pretty to the naked eye.

That being said, my favourite footwork of any fighter is probably Ricardo Lopez.
