  • Homage to Ricardo Lopez and Hideyuki Ohashi in Japan.

Aware I just noticed days later after it happened, but I think it is pretty neat.

A ceremony or reunion was held in which Ricardo Lopez was greeted by Japanese former world straw-weight champion Hideyuki Ohashi, whom he defeated by TKO in the fifth round and was crowned WBC champion, in a fight that took place at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo 34 years ago, precisely in October 1990.

I follow Ohashi on IG so I got to see this the other day. Was really cool to see. Lopez looks great for his age too.

Japanese keeping it classy. More nations should do things like this.

In the UK, we should've done something to honour Hagler while he was alive, give him a real champion's reception in recognition of how badly he was treated when he won the title here.

Japanese fans always shock me with their class. I was just reading a thread a few days ago, Steph Fulton tweeted how his fight was going to be picked up in Japan and asked "Will my Japanese fans tune in?" and he was just flooded with japanese tweets from fans calling him great and saying they'll tune in for him, etc. etc. was hundreds of tweets. Guy is treated like royalty by Japanese fans and gets chit on constantly by Americans
