If they both agreed to fight at the CW limit of 200lbs lets say for instance that Arreola got serious, made the weight, and Dawson came in slightly under at about 195. If this happened would you approve of the fight just because Arreola made the weight or do you say no the natural size difference is too significant they can never have legit fight at any weight together ever?
I would not approve, as I usually never approve of fights with huge natural size differentials. Critics could argue, "but Spray HWs fight all of the time with a considerable difference in natural size between fighters". This is true but as I have stated in a thread I made previously HWs are different from other weight classes as HW does not qualify as one due to the absence of the key characteristic weight classes possess which would be a limit. The HW system isn't perfect I admit and we do have miss matches but we don't justify mismatches by pointing to other mismatches which were deemed acceptable due to no other alternative for HWs.
The Dawson/Arreola example is just an artificial one and the two fighters really don't matter in this scenario. I just can never give much credit to a considerably bigger man for taking on a smaller man. I think it is incumbent on the bigger man to be exactly that, the bigger man in this situation and not take a fight with a smaller man. The larger man is more liable because the challenge is always posed to the smaller man to make a statement because he is at the natural disadvantage and can only accumulate so much mass.
I know many will disagree with my view and say as long as the fighter make weight all is well but I just can't accept that no matter what the argument presented to me entails. I really just want to see where everyone stands on the whole weight issue in regards to fighters competing with eachother who are notably different in size.....comments opinions?
