  • Comments Thread For: Danny Garcia's staying power, name recognition lead to surprise title shot

Danny Garcia was the co-featured attraction when Saul "Canelo" Alvarez fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013, beating Lucas Matthysse to defend his 140-pound WBC title for a fourth time. Eleven years later, Garcia (37-3, 21 KOs) will co-headline an Alvarez event for a second time when he challenges WBA middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (30-3-3, 18 KOs) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

What a joke. Not to sound like a broken record, but he's fought twice in the last four years, hasn't held a belt in over seven years and has NEVER even FOUGHT at middleweight... AND it's now at a catchweight lol.

His staying power? I really don't understand, he hasn't won a significant fight in like 7 years, I think he carefully selected opponents including long bouts of inactivity. I think it's going to catch up with him tonight as Lara is not a normal 40 year old man.

Question is why is Garcia the only one interested in Lara? What about the Charlo brothers or Adames? Why bash Garcia when he's the only willing to take that title shot? The others would rather stay dormant, sit around and waste their time.

Because as Garcia said...Lara brings little to the table. If Lara had something to offer he wouldnt need to give up catchweight status. He's yeaterdays hero in a division that has been forgotten about for some time. Noone is bashing Garcia...they are bashing the fight.. .because in truth its a poor fight for a Co-feature in a PPV of this size.

To really take full advantage of his "staying power", he should rematch Errol 'the tooth' Spence, One time, and then Show-Time, Ivan Redkach, and any other stable-mate on 'THAT' side of the street.

And while he's at it, he should not forget to bring 'Papa Aheel Garcia' along with him for the ride.
