I think that’s the weight he’s comfortable at in his 30s, but I don’t believe SMW is his optimal fighting weight. Canelo is 5’8” on a good day. Despite his stocky frame he could still make 160 lbs comfortably with the same training regiment that he did 5 to 10 years ago. Canelo remains an elite fighter at 168 pounds for sure but this is because of his skills. As we’ve seen, when he fights big 168 pounders and natural light heavyweights even his big punch doesn’t carry.

Difficult to believe people are trying to somehow glorify Canelo's win over Berlanga just because his opponent went all 12 rounds and had an undefeated record against no top 5 ranked contenders, title challengers or former world champions at age 27.

The highest Canelo has been was against Khan at a catchweight of 155, was up to 187. That's 32 pounds. Quite Doubt he is fighting a fighter much heavier than himself in Edgar, considering he has acclimated to the division, he have to amputate a leg to make 154-160 now. The reason Berlanga did alright is because he didn't engage enough to get countered with something that would had ended thre fight by fighting carefully in the backfoot and even then Canelo gassed relatively quickly.

          • Main event was better than expected. Canelo's defo past his prime now that's evident. I don't think he'll ever get a KO again.

I'm a huge Lara fan but that was the absolute worst fight of his ever. Garcia clearly came to survive which I didn't expect but Lara could have done more to push an earlier KO. That said, I'd pick him over anybody at 160

            • Trevor McCumby was welcomed back to work and had a pleasant surprise waiting for him. His store manager and co-workers appreciated him giving the boxing world the fight of the night. WAR T-Rev!

              • I would pick McCumby over Berlanga, no joke. Canelo should have ran through him, just like a real elite 168 pounder would have done. Benavidez would destroyed him within 6 rounds. This was a mediocre performance at best.

                • Definitely going to appreciate Canelo's last few bouts--hell, I may even go to one of his events before he hangs em up for good. He's closing in on 20 years as a pro and still able to perform at this high level, though he's no longer in his prime. Hopefully the Benavidez fight happens sometime next year, though, sadly, Canelo has other options.

I'm looking at what we're left with as far as stardom in the sport of boxing...it's kinda bleak if we're being honest. We have guys like Tank, Shakur, Teo, Devin, and Ryan to look forward to. Where are the $10-20M dollar PPV fighters who clear 1M homes? These guys don't appear to be that, but Tank is closest as far as household names is concerned.

Things are changing in the sport, I just hope it's changing for the better.

It's too bad we never got that Jermall fight at 160.
