        New York Yankees great Bernie Williams is Puerto Rican. As for the “Y” names, it’s the Soviet influence in communist Cuba.

            lol, I was more curious about the Y's...for some reason I have always wondered about this. I never thought about the Soviet aspect.

              NYC, thank you for shedding light on the names. I have wondered myself, but have never once thought of the Soviet influence! Appreciate the new knowledge!

                Great Britain took Habana from Spain in 1762, they did a lot of fvking in 11 months, and some of the soldiers stayed in the island.

                  Also, a lot of immigration from other islands that were former British colonies. Teofilo Stevenson’s father was from Saint Vincent, and Aroldis Chapman’s paternal grandparents were from Jamaica.

                    The Caribbean is a mixed place. Panama Al Brown was, surprisingly, from Panama but he didn't have a Hispanic name either.
