Hoya's been known to wear a sombrero (among other things) from time to time but he was actually born in California. I believe he fought for US Olympic team in the early 90's, and did fairly well if I remember correctly.

I watched that fight live on TV. I thought Oscar was very clearly ahead in the fight. As I watched him literally give away the final rounds, I still thought he had done just enough; but it didn’t shock me when the judges’ scores came back. That had to be one of the worst strategical mistakes I’ve ever seen in any sport, right up there with the Seahawks’ decision to pass from the one-yard line in Super Bowl XLIX. Just head-scratching. Yeah, Tito got the W; but, to this day, no one seems to believe he actually deserved it.
