What would happen if Joe C fought Winky now? They were/are both among the best technicians ever, in their respective classes, but Calzaghe is retired and Winky is past prime. I think it would be a tough fight for Calz, but he'd come out on top still.
Calzaghe vs Wright?

Calzaghe is the worst kind of style for Wright. It would be like the Williams fight kind of... Atleast thats what I think, but I guess we can't actually say that unless they fought. I just think someone like Calz is all wrong for Wright. -
I agree. Plus Calzaghe is a light heavyweight, and Winky has always been a natural junior middleweight.Comment

But they are both southpaws. And Joe is not much bigger than Winky.Comment

Joe had trouble making 168. Wright looked less than usual at 170 because of the weight jump. They are not the same size.
Calzaghe would shut Wright out... the style is as wrong as possible. It'd be like Williams, but Calzaghe has much better defense. Wright wouldn't win a round.Comment

I have no doubt Joe would win, as I said. But it would be an interesting fight.Joe had trouble making 168. Wright looked less than usual at 170 because of the weight jump. They are not the same size.

Wrigth doesn't belong over 160 sizewise or stylewise here.Comment

Wright actually won the first round on my scorecard against Williams if I remembered correctly. He was not looking like a man who had ring-rust, but then Williams completely took over in the next round and dominated the rest of the fight for the most part. With movement and uppercuts under his arms!
I also don't remember the interviews that much, but I don't think Wright said it was ring-rust or made any excuses. I think he gave all the credit in the world to Williams.Comment

I gave the first round to Wright as well. Effective punches outweighed the volume of ineffective punches from Williams IMO. I was too drunk to score after round 3 though, because I could see the oncoming destruction unfolding.Wright actually won the first round on my scorecard against Williams if I remembered correctly. He did say his timing was off a bit and it was because of the layoff. I don't think he said anything that made it sound like that would have changed the result. He was pretty respectful.
I thought he looked really good for being old and inactive to be honest. Hyperion says his legs are gone though, and that's what he needs to be solid behind that guard up stance, which makes sense to me.Comment
