Junior middleweight is a glamorless division. No greats fights of ATG level there.

Spence is fighting Fundora, so next best thing for Bud is Vergil Ortiz Jr., or Jaron "Boots" Ennis! I still have no idea why Hearn wants Boots to unify @ 147, before moving up! I think Turki would offer Bud a BIG BAG to fight Boots or Ortiz Jr.!

Canelo Alvarez Fires Back at Turki Alalshikh Over Crawford Fight Offer
        By Tim Compton - 08/07/2024

Canelo Alvarez fired back at Turki Alalshikh on Tuesday, reacting to his offer for a fight against Terence Crawford and his comments about his Riyadh Season-sponsored UFC event that is taking place on the same night as his September 14th match against Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas. Canelo didn’t like Turki’s remark about competing with his Mexican Independence Day event on September 14th at the T-Mobile in Las Vegas.

Unfortunately, Berlanga isn’t the ideal opponent for Canelo to fight on that date, going up against the UFC because this isn’t a match the boxing public has asked for. The guy that Canelo needed was David Benavidez, but he’s not interested in fighting him yet, if ever.

“I don’t like the way he talks. It’s his problem, not my problem. If he wants to fight me with other guys, he needs to do it my way. Not his way,” said Canelo to Sean Zittel.

The altercation that Canelo had with Berlanga on Tuesday created a lot of interest on social media. If they can keep up with that kind of stuff for the next month, they may do excellent numbers on PBC on Prime Video and DAZN PPV.

Canelo said he was contacted about a fight with Terence Crawford but is focused on his match against Berlanga right now. He said Crawford is not a fight that he’s interested in.

The way Crawford looked against WBA junior middleweight champion Isrial Madrimov last Saturday, the public wouldn’t be interested in that match either because he didn’t dominate at 154. It’s obvious from watching that fight that Crawford is too small, weak, and old to move up to 168 for a fight against Canelo.

        Turki’s Change of Heart

On Tuesday, Turki said on social media that he was no longer looking to make the fight between Crawford and Canelo, but he came to the same conclusion the fans had about that fight. Crawford doesn’t possess the power, size, or youth to make the jump up to 168. He needs to focus on fighting guys at 154 or 147, preferably talents like Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.

        Turki on Twitter

I heard what Canelo said that he respects me but doesn't like the way we do business. As for him respecting me, it doesn't matter to me if he does or not. As for the way I do business, I know why he doesn't like it, because I only target big fights at fair prices, so of course anyone who likes easy fights won't like that. And I know how he feels after losing to Bivol, so he's been looking for easier fights ever since. Also, I'm not the one who's afraid of fighting Benavidez or Crawford. Therefore, I knew he was wasting our time and making excuses with big amounts of money that can't be paid. So I'm continuing my way to make big fights that serve the boxing world, and he's on his way to making easy show-only fights.

Nah, there's no point. Both fighters are great, I'd hate to see Crawford get hurt. Just leave them be.

Yeah I just think why bother even thinking about Canelo, Crawford only just moved up to 154 and he had a difficult fight. It seems crazy to fight Canelo.

Madrimov would give Canelo fits imo - he pitted his ring iq against Bud and they are an even match. Both have a higher ring IQ than Canelo who has a good ring iq but not an elite ring iq.
Styles make fights - from what I've seen of Madrimov I'll favour him over Tim, Fundora, Spence, My eyes tell me his most difficult fights will be Ortiz and Boots at 154 and until I see more of Ortiz at 154 I'll very slightly favour Madrimov by decision in that matchup - if Madrimov isn't backed by Turi's money he'll be the most avoided at 154.

Do we actually know if Fundora/Spence is next though? Seems like the recent Spence updates I’ve seen point to him still not having a new trainer in place. If they’re hellbent on that fight, might be an additional 6 months from now with Spence still sorting out new trainer + legal issues. Also, WBO is primed to strip Fundora if he’s set on fighting Spence. Would seem counterintuitive for Fundora to sideline himself for an undetermined amount of time while giving up his belt in the process.

I get Crawford wants the big payday but he should do Canelo no favors by giving him another fight to duck Benavidez some more.

Crawford should either unify with Fondura (since the Spence fight isn’t on) and then, if he wins, fight the winner of the Murtz /Tszyu fight just ordered.

If he loses, give Spence the rematch or make a Boots a fight.

I’ve seen conflicting reports surrounding that fight. If Fundora is smart, he waits to see if Tzsyu becomes IBF champion, and if no deal for Errol by then, he fights Tzsyu!
