ME! in other words **********! that whole "boxing is dead"is just ethnocentric propaganda made by people like white(no pun intended) that know in this idiotic shallow society if you say something over and over people will believe anything! like religion! It really is the new white hope..and whitey is mad as hell right now if you havent noticed..lol **** any1 with a brain knows the truth boxing may only use one type of martial art(as those nimrods always say) but its the most exiting one..so they got it right from the begining hence: no need for mma

lol i really couldnt of put it better. u know to me the whole mma thing is all good until they go to the ground game. it just makes me feel uncomfortable when they just leave them there the whole round. i mean lets be honest, most these fights we get to see stand up for about 20 seconds then the rest is like watching bikini girls doing mud wrestling. my stepfather doesnt watch any sports except boxing & i once called him over to the tv 2 to watch an mma fight & all was good until seconds into the fight they hit the ground. i got 2 say it was embarrasing, he had to leave saying it was gay. so i see where bernard is coming from & other boxing purist. truth is, they need to change the rules & try & keep it more to the stand up game if they want to compare it to boxing. if not then just compare to wrestling because right now that what it is. if they changed the rule where once their in the ground for 20 seconds & the ref steps in & stands them up again then i guess i could watch & enjoy it more but right now it just doesnt do it for me. plus i just couldnt envision the great bruce lee doing any mma, i mean could u? :-) lol pesonally to me all mma is right now is 2 men grinding their nutz against each for the mayority of the rounds....that just doesnt do it for me.....boxing is & will always be number one & a real sport......

yeah but who is bernard hopkins to say any f**king thing...that cat doesn't box clean...throws one punch, then lunges in with his head....then once he's inside he's holding and hitting on the opposite side of the ref...this cats lands so many headbutts, elbows, and lowblows, that he and his fans count them as legally landed punches...calzaghe landed one pittypat lowblow and nard was crying like a *****...

Only insecure losers share this opinion. How many street fights had Bernard ben in? They almost always go to the ground. Hopkins is a hypocrite, he accompanied Randy Couture to the octagon twice and was backstage at numerous UFC events. MMA athletes never bash boxing because they are not insecure about boxings' dwindling popularity. I love boxing, and I love mma. I'm also intelligent enough to realize mma is a real fight, boxing is an art with hands. When in a street fight do people say "you can only use hands"? Fact of the matter is 90% of mma fighters would crush boxers in a fight because their skill sets are much more diverse than simply hands.

I wonder what Randy Couture thinks about this... I think that Randy and Hopkins should go at each other on the Octagon. Randy would woop that asss....

Ok so B-Hop is exaggerating on this one a little. But, hyberbole aside, he's basically on point. The MMA marketing engine is so intertwined with the image of violence and tattoos and goatees that the average (and I mean average intelligence) fan thinks it's cool based on that. The real MMA fans are essentially wrestling fans, because in the end that's what MMA is. They market it like it's an all out carnage fest but it usually turns out to be a lot of holding and grappling. A true boxing purist could never appreciate all the inactivity. People keep defending it but what they're defending is not the legitimacy of the spectacle but the success of the marketing. Brittny Spears is immensely popular but is it quality music? Well, maybe to MMA fans. The two sports should never be compared. Boxing, and I've said this before, is the culmination of the art of combat. The Queensberry Rules evolved over many hundreds of years because people got tired of all the rolling around on the ground and lack of striking. They finally decided that men should stand up and fight as men, not as animals. Unfortuantely today's society has reverted and now seeks to satisfy it's bloodlust by trading the sport of constant metered striking for a virtually uneventful ground brawl with the possibility of one devasting bone-crushing blow. The average MMA fan is, fittingly, the average guy. Personally, I've never conisdered myself average.

He never said he didn't respect the athletes, he just said watching it is gay (which is true).

LMAO, YES they do. I can quote you 'till the end of time if you don't believe me.

When in a street fight do people say "you can only use hands"?
MMA is not a streetfight as there are a number of rules so you're point is pretty invalid.

Fact of the matter is 90% of mma fighters would crush boxers in a fight because their skill sets are much more diverse than simply hands.
Oh is that a fact now? Funny how we've seen boxers crush MMA fighters in MMA and vice versa. You cant generalize like that. Some MMA fighters would beat some boxers in a fight and some boxers would beat some MMA fighters in a fight.

no they don't, fights go to the floor with people who can't fight just like in mma if 1 of the fighters can't fight with the hands then he grabs or shoots for the takedown, i have had plenty of fights in my life and only 1 of them ended up on the floor and i was 10 years old at the time
