I prefer the guy with no humility than a coward with no honor. See Ali for reference. Your idol is hiding behind the alphabet soups organizations and he is the one not showing an Ounce of humility, he's been arrogant and conceived by holding the belts hostage without any concern for the well deserving #1&2 mandatories.

I blame this on the Mexican American fan base. They have ruined their fighters and now are actively ruining our (Mexican) fighters too.

They haven't produce a legitimate legend since De La Hoya because they will spend big money for subpar fights which has led to the decline of Mexican American boxers that saw the opportunity to make big money for little risk (see Mikey Garcia and Leo Santa Cruz).

Canelo has many detractors in Mexico because on his rise to stardom we had already noticed his cherry picking ways before he made the jump to the United States....and the rest is history, a career marred by controversy because he knows Mexican Americans will pay anyway.

Hopefully they do not ruin Bam Rodriguez too, what seems to be their best fighter since ODLH.

It's a shame the Canelo and Benavidez fight never happened. It seems like the boxing powers that be whether it be promotional companies, sanctioning bodies and Canelo (he could have made it happen if he wanted) to an extent delayed this fight until the point this happens.

In the end I think Benavidez is making the right move. You can't wait out at 168 for a fight that realistically looks like it would keep getting blocked from happening. Try your hand out at 175 and see what happens now that he is entering the prime years of his career. Hopefully Benavidez pans out to be another great fighter with a good career. Only time will tell.

Good for David , inactivity kills careers .........No point in waiting for a Canelo fight , Benavidez vs Beterbiev/Bivol is a huge fight IMHO and If he wins that don't think Canelo will have a choice but to fight him ..........

Yeah I noticed this pattern aswell, he is treated more like a media celebrity than a fighter, his biggest fanbase is in the states where they don't question how he manages his career and try to instead direct the blame onto other proffesional boxers.

In this case Benavidez, they stated that he "ducked" instead, because he didn't want to continue being inactive, renounced his mandatory position after 2-3 years and doesn't want to cut down to 168 where there is no other opposition to fight against.

Apperantly, Canelo also "earned" the choice to cherrypick, despite that the past has nothing to do with the current state of the sport, pro boxers also have their right to challenge for the title against anybody and he has to follow the rules by holding most of the belts in the division.

In the other hand, he has a mixed reception in Mexico, he wasn't that well treated in Guadalajara (his home state) against Ryder prior and even during that bout.

Really think Benavidez thought if he made a lot of noise, then Canelo would cave like he did with Golovkin. Difference is, Golovkin had a bigger following and more money on the table than Benavidez. Plus, this was before Canelo solidified himself as a HOF and possibly ATG.

Went about it all the wrong way. Plus, that's your countryman. Should've just chilled the f*** out a little

You realize he only bad mouthed canelo after canelo ducked him? Do you understand cause and effect? And whats he actually said to Canelo? What bad words? Your ducking? He has been very respectful actually.
