  • Comments Thread For: Q&A: Joe Cordina

Joe Cordina lost for the first time as a professional - and therefore the IBF super-featherweight title he won, reclaimed after being stripped, and then defended - when in May, on the undercard of Tyson Fury-Oleksandr Usyk, he was unexpectedly stopped by Anthony Cacace.

If Cordina thinks rounds 1 & 2 were easy for him then maybe he should watch it back today.

Round 1 was largely uneventful & quite even, bit of body work here & there. Round 2 was more dynamic but everything Joe landed he got two receipts for, plus he spent a fair proportion of the round getting his face jabbed off.

It is what it is, I'm a Cordina fan but if his team are telling him the first 2 rounds were easy for him then that's a potential problem because they're simply not being honest.

      What a crock of ****

Hadn't watched it back; yeah, ok Joe.

As has already been said, if he hasn't he should because those first rounds weren't easy for him.

Still moaning about being hit on the break and the refs instructions but forgotten about the one that goes like "defend yourself at all times"!

C'mon Joe, be better than this!

But here is the thing at 1:54 to 1:49 seconds of round 3, Bob Williams (the ref) says twice, "Bring your arms out, bring your arms out, boys." Cordina was tied up by Cacace at that moment. Then, he brings his right and left arms out of Cacace's grip only to throw a right and then a left hook. What follows was a Cacace right hand, then a thunderous left hook. If Cordina wants to talk about "them two shots" does he mean his two "sneaky" or "dirty" shots or the two that followed by Cacace. The two which followed by Cacace were a continuation of what Joe Cordina started. REWATCH the fight on youtube. The ref did the right thing by penalizing neither of the fighters.
