I have a theory on soccer hooligans, let me know what you think. Its funny when a sport like rugby, that involves way more physical contact and damage has fans that generally act like gentlemen at the events, and have respect for the opposition.

But then a sport like football, that encourages no physical contact has raging fans that are out for blood. Perhaps they are compensating for a lack of physical contact and violence in the sport, and projecting it onto the stands? They are becoming the tribesmen for their team. I dunno.
I think it's because they drink too much, and that football is deeply ingrained in the culture of the UK and Ireland. They take it very seriously, like when Barry got all upset with you.

I remember when Celtic came to play the local pro team here, and their Boston based supporters club came; they were mostly ex-pats from Ireland and they were all tanked. The one sitting behind me had to be moved because of how he was calling all the players ****s and telling them all to **** off.

I didn't mind because I know that's how the atmosphere at games is like over there, but all the yuppies and parents didn't like it.

Well whatever it is I'm proud not to be associated with that culture of excessive drinking and fights at sporting events. Drink just surrounds everything here and in the UK.

I know people that bring their weapons to the football games, even when their favourite team isn't playing, just so they can pick fights with the supporters of teams they don't like. They meet at their agreed locaton and just beat the **** out of eachother.

These people live probabaly roads away from eachother. They probabaly serve eachother in restaurants, drive each other in taxis and buses, you get the idea. And all for soccer? It makes no sense to me. I think there is a distinct difference in those type of fans and their supposed 'love of the game' than to a real football fan, which I would consider you, Shadows.

        Thanks for the compliments, jammer.

American sports aren't like that. They want to keep a "PC" and family friendly enviroment at all times. They're afraid, IMO, if anything bad happens that they'll lose sponsorships or anything else that will bring the organization money.

Capitalism for the win But they are on the right road, I hate to see police wasted at a sporting event, riot vans and squads of cops needed to stop these hooligans. Madness...

          Oh well...War JT!!

Yeah I was trying to get that impression.

But seriously I don't like that mentality.Jermain is basically acknowledging his problem. That's not good. Many times that leads to even worse.
