Boxxer actually have the best platform in the UK. They’re just the worst promotional outfit though.

I think they’ll become a bit of a feeder company to QP and MR. They’ll build prospects in front of a wider audience and then once those fighters are ready to take more globally relevant fights they’ll sign with Frank or Eddie.
Might as well jump ship now. Shallowest talent pool needs to all be put in the same place.

It’s subscription based but like over 50% of the UK channels are owned by Sky, many households will have a package that includes internet, sometimes phone and then TV.

Yeah after Haye-Harrison and Wlad-Haye being PR disasters, Sky were ready to pull the plug on boxing in the UK and were going to just select certain PPV level fights to show behind a paywall. As much as Frank is a snake, he spent millions of his own money to help launch Boxnation and keep his fighters active. Because Sky now had a competitor in the market they decided to re-enter the boxing market, with Frank gone they needed a promoter, they wanted Hatton but he caught sniffing coke by the paparazzi, they then went to Maloney who was in process of becoming a transgender woman, they then went to Barry Hearn who passed straight on to Eddie who took the ball and ran with it.
It sounds like Sky re-entered the boxing market just to spite Queensberry. I thought BOXXER would be in trouble if they didn't step it up, but it seems like Sky will probably retain their services regardless of their performance....or maybe not. If BOXXER doesn't get Wardley/Clarke 2, that may be an omen. I remember BoxNation being such a cool concept, feels like the prototype for what DAZN is trying to do. I wish all Boxing could be under one umbrella, but it's a pipe dream.

Sky basically wanted to have their cake and eat it, they wanted to show the money making fights but didn’t want to show the smaller hall Friday night cards. At the time Queensberry had all the big names in the UK aside from Khan and Froch. Groves, DeGale, Cleverly, Bellew, Brook, Burns, Chisora etc. Sky thought they’d be able to just pick and choose with Frank’s cards rather than give him guaranteed dates.

Yeah Boxnation was essentially DAZN on a shoestring budget, yet it delivered far better value, we used to get Mayweather, Pacquiao, Canelo etc fights all for just the monthly subscription which was only £12-15 if I remember correctly. I remember there was one Saturday and they showed like 4 fight cards, think it was a German card with Braehmer or Abraham, then it was Khan vs Diaz from the UK, then Martinez vs Murray from Argentina then Garcia vs Judah from the US. In hindsight, no wonder they essentially became defunct.

DAZN have unfortunately chosen to go the PPV route, but in fairness they’re losing a lot of money when you look at their accounts so I suppose they’ve got to do something different.

Love it as an American fan, typically only the biggest Warren cards get picked up here. Streaming is top dog here in the US, don't know if it's still lagging behind in the UK, but I know very few people that still have linear TV at this point. Really hope this means more cross over fights with Matchroom, that would be a big boost to British boxing and I wonder if Warren starts to try to put on more cards outside UK and with non UK fighters too. Definitely a positive from the US fan perspective imo
