Comments Thread For: Muhammad Ali the 'standard bearer' of educated trash talk

That's the new order of business in boxing today, and unbeaten lightweight contender Davis - a 2020 U.S. Olympic silver medalist - maximized the tactic Saturday night after watching his Top Rank stablemate and fellow lightweight Raymond Muratalla notch a victory by decision over former 130-pound champion Tevin Farmer.

The basement dwellers/incels who moonlight as online boxing fans would have been in total meltdown over Ali and his calling it like it was persona. The “culture warriors” would be dumping sideways bricks

I don't know who you are and I'm certainly not trying to insult you. Just talking boxing. I'm older and I remember watching Ali live. As he got older, he made his trash talking a little more like a show. It turns out he was a very remarkable man and lived quite a life. However, he was so rude and insulting to a lot of his earlier rivals, especially blacks that he was suppose to be defending against racism. The way he treated Frazier was horrible. Uncle Tom? As disrespectful to an icon like Louis as he was calling his opponents the bum of the month club. Anyway, it goes on, but it's just my opinion.

Ali crossed the line on a few occasions 'what's my name' ..Ernie Terrell was pretty bad and as said the great pretty ordinary (but great fighter) blue collar Joe Frazier didn't deserve that abuse , it was pretty disgraceful. Ali was much better than that and regretted it in later life , but the damage was done and I don't think Joe and most of the Frazier clan ever forgot it. ...understandable .I like to remember Ali with that twinkle in his eye and his razor sharp wit , George Foreman ..'the Mummy' , even George laughs at that one.
