Comments Thread For: Naoya Inoue picking TJ Doheny may be 'a step back,' but not an affront

Naoya Inoue isn't pleasing everyone by taking a showcase fight against TJ Doheny on Sept. 3 in Tokyo, but the undisputed junior featherweight champion hasn't committed a mortal sin.

What kind of BS is this, Inoue is only fighting Dohney because Japanese fans have asked for it. This happened after dohney KO'D Japhethlee Llamido, which no one expected. So Japanese fans wanted inoue to face Dohney and that's why Dohney was the replacement for dome, if nery shows up overweight.

And after the fight sam goodman comes in the ring and challenges inoue. So inoue decides to fight him, out of nowhere goodman backs out. But the september date for Arena in Tokyo is already booked. So inoue takes dohney as the replacement, since they already have an agreement, as well as the fans have been asking for the fight. Also inoue gets to stay active.

Then out of no where this MJ bull**** comes out. Which makes no sense when MJ doesn't want to fight in tokyo but in saudi. MJ acts like he is a big name fighter and is making demands to inoue. When he should be accepting inoue's terms if he wants the fight. And since inoue has fight lined up, MJ should fight someone ranked high to drive the excitement for their fight. But MJ refuses to fight anyone and is staying inactive.

Even if this is a "step-down". Activity is more important.

When Fighters fight once every year, or two, we don't see them fight. Willie Pep fought over 200 times professionally. Couldn't name 50 of his opponents, but who cares? People were able to actually SEE him.

Most boxers spend their days sparring, which no fans get to see.
I enjoy watching Inoue fight. I wouldn't care if he fought someone who was 17-16-3. He'd eventually have the big fights (i.e. Julio Chavez, who had over 100 fights, and people couldn't rattle off 20 of his opponents).

      Just box.

        N. Inoue is entitled to a stay busy fight. For Paulie and Chris, if you need something to complain about, how the King of Boxing (????), Canela the Duck / Fraud from Mexico. For MJ, how about contacting D. Benavidez and ask him how he feels getting passed over for numerous stay busy fights.

When you're at that level and have only fought top opposition in order to unify belts, I believe he can fight whomever he wants as a "stay busy" fight. We've already seen how ring rust ruins fights and makes these "boxing gods" look vulnerable. Inoue IMHO can fight a garbage can for all I care and, should the fight take place in Japan, you best believe I'll wake up early for that one. Inoue is a must watch fighter and, at this point, he's the "A" side. The knockdown against Luis Nery was something I'm CERTAIN he learned from as he showed in the following rounds where he simply DOMINATED. A master class in defeating fear, hell of a recovery time, great boxing with speedy, well placed combos, and, eventually, a nasty KO. Great fight for Inoue! Dude is on another level. Dude is FEARLESS!!!

Loving the groundswell of support here, the only thing to be added is the somewhat hackneyed reminder that this is, lest we forget, prizefighting.

Oh & also, Inoue doesn't owe anyone anything after all he's done so all haters just stfu & enjoy the next beatdown!

I don't care if Inoue is fighting a box of Cornflakes. I'll get up early and watch it. MJ can get in the ring after the fight if he really wants a piece of The Monster. Let's see if he does.

hopefully but that goodman tard-o is going to screw everything up. he should have been stripped of his mandatory status for being so cowardly and stu-pid, some people even say he lost his last fight to that unknown guy. i havnet seen it but not surprised. he should go to the back of the line behind mj at least

As good as the Monster is, LaManna is just too big.
