I started watching boxing with interest when Matthew Saad Muhammad was a regular on ABC Wide World of Sports, so for me Philly still has that aura of a "fight town", faded as it may be.

The Blue !! That place used to get to rocking so hard that I was sure the upper level was going to collapse. I'm surprised that the article didn't mention Charles The Hatchet Brewer, he had a few great fights at The Blue. TNF and Friday Night fights were so good , for a while there we had fights on Wednesday nights too. If I wasn't deployed I was watching the fights. Whenever I could get home my parents and I watched them. I had one of the few mothers that could analyze a fight like Al Bernstein.

I remember Brewer had a good run for a while. Tall, rangy, never in a bad fight, became a must-see fighter for me. So timing is everything. Just when both my grown kids live in Philly, the Blue Horizon closes. I'd be up to Philly every month if they still had the fights there.
