Comments Thread For: New champ Liam Paro was 'terrified' his career was over

Liam Paro has opened up on the "terrifying" time in his life that he feared for his career. The Australian, 28, in June produced what is certain to be remembered as one of the upsets of 2024 when, as the significant underdog, he travelled to Puerto Rico to dethrone Subriel Matias as the IBF junior welterweight champion.

It was wonderful seeing a guy as humbled as this, shut down the Matias arrogance machine. They are the antithesis of each other. Matias could learn from another humble fighter like Cotto and learn how to carry himself like Cotto.

Paro should forget about all that, and remember how lucky he was to get a split decision against Yomar Alamo.
Who dropped him in the first round of their fight, and should've gotten the decision in a close fight the defining factor being the knockdown!

I like Paro's courage and daring. He walked into the lions den and left with the lions skin. Now here comes Eddy to groom him. Teach him how to fight bums at home forever.

I thought Matias was incredibly classy in defeat against Paro. No excuses and gave full credit to the Aussie.

Paro was impressive and would like to see if he can pull off another fight as impressive in the rematch
I think Paro has his number but won’t know until it happens

Catteral or Prograis is no bum.... if it's the real planned next opponent for Paro.

Paro will be fighting Catterall. Regis looks stale and on the slide. He's not beating Jack.

I hope this made Matias come back down to earth. I always get behind fighters that take a dose of humility after pumping their chests.

Paro went to the hospital after the beating Matias gave him. Paro may have won the fight, but he wasn’t the same fighter against Hitchins.
