  • Macklin vs Pirog; Abraham-Taylor Card; Sdunek Update

Renowned trainer Fritz Sdunek must for health reasons step back as trainer for the likes of Zsolt Erdei, Sebastian Zbik, Aleksander Dimitrenko, Dennis Boytsov and others - but he will remain head coach for Vitali Klitschko, writes Bild Zeitung. The 62-year old Sdunek first battled cancer, recovered but recently suffered from heart problems. Fritz, a top class amateur and trainer in East Germany, was for some time during the 90´s second coach in Universum when Chuck Talhami was chief trainer. But after Dariusz Michalczewski´s bad showing against Graciano Rocchigiani in their first fight back in 96 Sdunek took over and his training methods have worked almost to a perfection. Other trainers may know more about technical stuff but when it comes to conditioning and tactics Sdunek is second to none and he is largely responsible for developing the effective style the Klitschkos. Outside of the Wladimir and Vitali, Sdunek has trained top class fighters like Juan Carlos Gomez, Artur Grigorian and Isvan Kovacs.

It should be a great fight!

This is tough matchmaking for Dmitry Pirog at this stage in his career - but if he wins, he'll be established as a bona fide middleweight contender.

Dmitry Pirog is a very very good boxer, imo a better boxer than Macklin. Macklin might punch harder but Pirog is the better skilled. But yes I agree it will be a great fight. I beleive Pirog will be the next middleweight champ, I think he can beat the likes of Sylvester and Sturm already now. and I think in a few years he will be able to beat the likes of Paul Williams and Kelly Pavlik.

And Macklin is far above Pirog.
