I do agree with your sentiments here to a degree, but what is overlooked is the major problems Calzaghe had in his personal life at the time. His divorce was really messy and his kids didn't want to live with their mum.

Some might think its an excuse, but family comes first.

The biggest problem was that it took Calzaghe 15 years to realise that he was tired of being Frank Warren's lapdog.

If he had split earlier like Hamed and Hatton did, the bigger fights would have come sooner.

Calzaghe fought 18 times in Wales, 4 times outside the UK and the rest in England/Scotland. During his early career he was spat at while fighting in England because of their hatred for Welsh people, no he's successfull they jump on his ****. Fighting in England for Joe was not "home advantage".
