Vargas was never the same after losing to Trinidad. He like Haney was dropped several times against Trinidad and after that fight he started getting dropped by journeymen, even before other big fights against Oscar, Mosley, etc. Is Haney's chin now forever dented?

Vargas took on Trinidad and then Hoya and that’s what did him in.

haney won’t fight a heavy puncher I. His next fight, it’ll be a calculated opponent meant for rounds and confidence building.

He only ever fought two in his career and was in trouble twice. The crazy weight cuts have permanently ruined his punch resistance. Ans maybe he was just chinny anyway

Just gotta pick his opponents properly, no shame in getting blasted by Garcia. He's a different puncher, Haney does need to go to 147 though, I think he can beat Teo when Teo eventually goes up there.

He has proven he is mentally fragile. Wilder was never the same after the Fury beatings, Teo took a while to get over the Kambosos loss but managed to pull it together. I think Haney is young enough and physically capable of coming back strong, but I’m not sure how this humiliating beatdown affected him mentally. So far he isn’t handling it very well.

Regardless, I don’t see him challenging himself in high risk fights again. It will be cherry picking from here on out, but there isn’t much to choose from at 140 and 147 may be a bridge too far. I don’t see him in another big PPV again unless he rematches Ryan or fights Teo.

We won't know until he faces a good opponent again. Everyone is just guessing until then

yeah i can see either way.

on one hand the blueprint is there, haney has no pop so you can take risks with him, and his chin is weak, so its in your benefit to trade and pressure him.

on the other hand ryan has very fast hands to go along with his power, that meant that Haney's usual tactic of excessive holding wasnt enough because ryan could get off first before haney could hold.

i think the bigger difference than the ryan fight will be when haney cant make 140 anymore, because at 147 guys will have the power and the physical strength in the clinches and haney wont have his massive weight advantage, i think he will be like a Ricky Hatton in that regard, to big for 140 but too weak for 147. one he looses his ability to weight cut like hatton then its over.

They are going to have to match haney carefully. they are dumping the title and holding out a year to hope the loss will blow over in the publics eye and that haney can get a "big" fight that is also low risk for him. I know certain styles he will avoid like a teo lopez they will avoid a guy like that like the plague. They will look for a decent name who is either past it or is coming up from lower weights.

yeah vargas there wasnt really anything wrong with him, he was well rounded it was just a very talented period. the winky fight was razor close i thought winky won and tito and DLH are hall of famers. In todays era vargas would be champ at 154 and would beat tszyu and charlos.

losing to ryan isnt the same as losing to tito and DLH. haney has no ***ing defense that is his problem his defense consist of excessive holding. ryan is sloppy and leaves himself open for counters and haney couldnt counter despite given all the opportunities. people talk about the weight cut and hydration clauses for the tank fight but that wasnt what knocked ryan out, what knocked ryan out was he got countered clean, i dont think he would eat that shot even if he rehydrated another 5 pounds.
