Kudos to Paro for fighting a disciplined fight. He stayed away from the slugfest, which is really easy to get into after a guy like Matias stings you with one of his power shots. Paro was stung a lot last night, but he remained calm, grabbed when he had to grab and moved when he had to move. Make no mistake about it, Paro is aching this morning. He took a beating at the hands of Matias, but the one thing he didn’t do was risk getting seriously wobbled by a shot. That’s the mistake others made. Matias is there to be hit, but that’s Fool’s Gold to think you’re going to stop him. Not the way you fight an animal like Matias.
Matias needs to fight behind the jab against a guy like Paro. Too many times he was trying to chase the kid instead of working on closing the gap and stinging him with the jab. He had to be first. The problem with power punchers like Matias is they think EVERYONE will fold under his pressure. That’s what his corner was telling him between the 4th and 5th round. They told him nobody could stand up to his pressure. Well, that wasn’t good strategy. Yes, it worked for him in the past, but last night he faced a guy who wasn’t going to mix it up with him. He also wasn’t going to sit on his own punches to try and hurt Matias. He was good with hitting him and getting ready for the return. When you sit on your shots, you leave yourself open for the return more often than not.
Another great fight. Hopefully these two will give us another fight. It was definitely entertaining and in the truest of boxing “fights” no one came out with any brain damage. They both entertained the crowd and we can’t ask for more than that.
Run it back!
"Paro took a beating at the hands of Matias"
I truly hope you're joking here? No such thing happened. Matias was outclassed though.
Haney can’t handle stiff punchers. That’s why Papa Haney protected him at 135. Put him in there against guys who can’t crack. And when he did step up in competition he came in 18-25 lbs over the weight limit (Loma and Prograis). The reason he got pounded out by Garcia is they weighed the same at the time of the fight. And Garcia can crack. Matias would annihilate Haney. Paro proved one thing this weekend. The boy can take a shot on the jaw.
Matias doesn't have anywhere near enough hand speed to beat Haney. It's a mismatch. Matias also has slow feet and gets turned in a way not many fighters suffer from.
Also, when you look at their resumes, only one is way out in front. It isn't Matias, that's for sure. To claim Haney is a scrub and Matias not to be... Well, that's clear delusion on your part.
If Haney's dad was protecting him from punchers, why was he in there with Ryan in the first place? Doesn't look to me he's being protected and kept away from anyone who can hit. Then you add in the fact Ryan weight cheated and was on performance enhancers... It's clear to see the bias here.
Wash? Pillow hands doesn’t wash anybody. And when he’s gotten in there against legit men who can punch, he’s been wobbled (Garcia and Linares). The only reason Prograis didn’t wobble him is Haney came into the fight weighing 165 lbs. That wouldn’t happen vs Matias. Matias would bust his ass inside of 7 rounds. Figures you have Haney-holics joking about Paro’s performance as if Haney is even remotely in the same yard by way of talent. Paro unlike Haney can actually fight and take a punch.
Wait, why wouldn't it happen with Matias if the weight of Haney is the reason to his wins? Unless you're saying Matias also comes into the ring much bigger than he weighed in? If that's the case, why don't you have the exact same feelings towards Matias as you do Haney and call him a weight cheat?
Luis Pabon is a disgrace the way he tried to steal the fight away from Paro.
If I would've said Paro has a shot before the fight, I think 90% of people would've made a lot of dumb jokes.
Glad people can shut up now.
Having said that, I don't think Matias was anywhere near his best.
There was no sign of a plan from his team. No adjustments during the fight.
Matias looked distracted and too relaxed before the fight.
What a silly analysis….lol. What Matias abandoned was the jab. If they ever rematch, he will remember one of the basics to boxing: the jab. He encountered the first disciplined fighter who didn’t crumble and abandon his wits after Matias hurt him. And Matias stung Paro plenty of times. When he did, he didn’t come back trying to earn respect. He stuck to his jab, a little movement and distance when Matias tried to close the gap. That’s where the jab would’ve controlled Paro. Amateurish corner should’ve called for the jab and more body work after it. The corner never said a word. They kept telling him to pressure Paro. They all thought Paro would melt under pressure. He didn’t.
Will be interesting to see if they give Matias a rematch, however.
Wrong. Matias used his jab but when lefts were pouring in and Paro was fighting on the inside/outside, he took away Matias jab accuracy. He also took it away by movement and making Matias miss by not standing in front for long. Styles make fights and Paro was all wrong for the one-dimensional fighter. You have a lot to learn about Boxing. You also forget things like Matias through 50 jabs in 5 rounds against Ponce and only landed 11. Not a jabbing dynamo. In 8 rounds against Jukembayev, Matias landed an average of 3.5 jabs a round. Not a jabbing dynamo. Against Paro, Matias through 141 jabs which was his highest of 3 fights, problem is Paro made him miss a ton of those. More of a jabbing dynamo last night but not an accurate one, due to Paro.
I noticed that too. Wasnt looking for it; it was obvious. Nearly every break was a chance to push Paro away or backwards, even when it was into a corner.

Run it back!
Agree with everything except run it back. It was unanimous. Move on. There are other people to fight to move forward.
The lowest of the low 5-1 underdog and he walked out of the ring el rey. I'll give Haney his credit as a road warrior, but I think Matias was the tougher assignment. Comparisons, Boots? Paro has much more gonads, hunting giants.
People say a lot now that Matias lost to Paro, like how he's easy work for a boxer. But no matter what the view, you have to admit Paro def has guts to face Matias, and discipline to follow the plan and not be lured into a losing firefight.
On top of that it must be a certain kind of coolheadedness to fight your fight against a deadly ****er while never even arguing against the clearly biased ref.
