Comments Thread For: David Benavidez: 'I'm Not Looking Past Oleksandr Gvozdyk, But I Am Looking Through Him'

David Benavidez has promised that he has not overlooked Ukraine's Oleksandr Gvozdyk. All week, Benavidez has answered questions about what might be next for him should he get by Gvozdyk in his first fight since moving up to 175 pounds, whether he will get the contest with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez or if he would want to fight the October winner of the unified light heavyweight title fight between Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev.

Benavidez will stop Gvozdyk. Gvozdyk last big fight was 5 years ago, that is an eternity for a fighter in their 30s and beterbiev damaged him so bad he retired for years before deciding to come back and face some lower level fighters. G wasnt even planning on this fight he was still working his way back into things but admitted he was surprised the offer came to him and wasnt going to turn down the opportunity.

People are remembering him from 6 years ago against adonis stevenson but he was 31 years old and prime then. hes now 37 and inactive against elite competition.

Benevidez is actually the smaller man. This is a first! Don't see him losing to the past due date Ukrainian, but maybe it will give us some info as too whether he can compete at this new weight.

these modern Ukrainians don’t take it to the body well

whether that be p4p great Ukro Cossack Usyk or Gvozdyk

Russian shot gun Beterbiev’s body shots broke down Gvozdyk and discouraged him

Benavidez Mexican durability and heart will see him through if this fight gets rough and ugly

Something I know is Gvozdyk is good, is a power puncher and is in tremendous shape for a 37yo fighter. It took a way more fresher Beterbiev to stop him. I won't make the mistake to sleep on him. This is a guy that you can tap to KO Canelo.

That's a great statement by Benavidez, about not looking past Gvozdyk, but through him.
That said Gvozdyk shouldn't be seen as a foregone conclusion, this guy is tough as nails (his ring moniker is nail).
Although I do believe that he'll be able to nail Benavidez quite a few times during their fight, I don't believe that he'll nail him to the canvas.
I do believe that Benavidez will win, and possibly by knockout.
I still wouldn't count out any Ukrainians chances whether in the ring, on the battlefield, or in life period.

noone takes a good one to the body well.
neither modern Ukes, nor ancient Sumerians.
human livers and kidneys are of no nation.
waist fat can help, but fat ain't of any nation neither.
