Jane Couch, a true pioneer in women's boxing, will be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame later this week. In 1998, Couch sued the British Boxing Board of Control to secure her right to fight in the United Kingdom, even after she had made marquee fights in the United States and Europe.

If they want to put Jane in the HOF because she fought the BBBofC which discriminated against women and did not allow them to fight in the UK, I get that.

But, she never won a major title, and her first 20 opponents had an average of less than 4 wins. Her overall record was 28-11 and she only had 3 wins of her 39 fights against fighters who had more than 10 fights. In other words, on its face, her boxing record does not merit her being in the HOF under any circumstance. As a boxer, based on her performance in the ring, she has no justification for being inducted into the HOF.

This writer should make it clear that Jane will be inducted into the HOF not not because of any notable accomplishments in the ring, because that is nonexistent, but because she was a trailblazer who beat the misogynistic good old boys club at the BBBof C.

Should she be given a seat at the HOF table because she beat the BBBofC, and not because of anything of note she accomplished in the ring? I guess subjectively, an argument can be made on her behalf that she be given an exception because she challenged and beat the BBBofC discriminatory practice against women, and won.

Will have to defer to you on this but yeah, I took it as implied that it was her work clearing the path for women boxers today that was the clincher
