I remember like it was yesterday. The night of a huge fight. Gotti and Gravano would pull up in limos 20 members deep wearing super sharp expensive suits along with lots of other crime families. A lot of you are probably too young to remember, but crime in New York was extremely bad. Bodies were turning up all over the city with the crime families at constant war with each other. Then the crack pandemic hit and just made everything ten times worse with outside gangs trying to control turf.

But man...... When there was a huge high profile boxing event, it seemed like crime in the city came to a stop. Crime families seemed to set aside their beefs for just that one night to enjoy a great night of boxing.

Gotti was an exception. Not the rule

that’s why he died in prison.

Carlo Gambino died in his own bed.

          real gangsters move in silence.

Wow that’s the kind of influence Boxing had back in the days. It was the same way in the Philippines during Pacman’s prime. I heard that crimes commited by gangs, and guerrilla warfares would come to a halt when Pac fought.
