If Canelo is just going to end up fighting Berlanga then he might as well have fought William Scull instead and kept all the belts together. There’s not much difference between the two of them.

How can you have Scull fighting for a belt - just makes a mockery of the IBF and all of boxing.
        It’s not their fault, though.

The IBF sticks to their rules, promoters see that and don’t like the idea of being held to strict standards, so they steer their fighters to other alphabet orgs.

imagine if other sports ran the way boxing runs.

So the super bowl comes down to say KC vs Seattle, and then KC says "Seattle doesnt bring enough views to the table, so we are going to play Dallas instead"

Thats how boxing operates. The IBF at least TRIES to make it a bit more equitable, making fighters compete in elimination bouts (playoff games) in order to advance to the mandatory position. It doesnt always mean the best fighter will be in the position, but it is certainly better than the sanctioning body board just "determining" on their own who the mando is. Because those board decisions are made 99% of the time based on how much money the sanctioning body will earn.

this, who the **** is William Scull and how is he their number 1 ranked, what did he ever do

he has a 40% KO ratio, two of the guys he just fought have only won 50% of their fights... he fought one time a year and in a six rounder last year, even jake paul fights 8 rounders. how the *** can they be taken seriously to say this guy who fought once in 2023 in a 6 rounder against a bum who is 23-18-3, that guy works at a meat packing plant he isnt a full time boxer.

how many times do we have to explain? the problem is not william scull or vladimir shishkin or ibf.

everybody is a nobody when they start. some time later boxers get ranked if they are any good. a champion can defend his title against top15 boxers only. but here is the thing. ibf send invitations to their top15 ranked boxers and a lot of them refuse to fight an eliminator for #1 or #2 spot (which is a great rule). then ibf demote those fighters. now pay attention. if they don't replace demoted fighters with new ones, some that are realistically #20, #25, they wouldn't have 15 names (or 13 if #1 and #2 are vacant). that's how guys you never heard of get ranked. it's not corruption. blame the fighters that refuse to fight eliminators! since nobody writes articles about this refusing, people are just surprised when they see an unknown mandatory. you have to really follow everything to know what exactly is happening. but "fans" don't follow boxing and then they blame unknown fighters for being unknown . well there was a time when you first heard about your best friend or your wife. they were nobodies until then too.

the alternative is that nobody fights and everybody just wait for a champion to cherry pick them. why fight eliminators or any tough fights and pay sanctioning fees when you can only wait for your shot which may never come? inactivity is already horrible. it would be abysmal and not worth following at all.

everybody should applaud guys like scull, shvedenko, karen chukhadzian, harry scarrf, michael eifert, zhilei zhang etc who accept invitations to fight an eliminator.

i saw that people still don't know the order of canelo's mandatories. wba's last mandatory fight was in december of 2020 (canelo was callum's mandatory). wbc's and ibf's last mandatory fights were in early 2021. wait time is simply terrible.

This Scull guy never beat anybody. he is not even top 10 by The Ring. That is much worse than Bivol fighting this Libian guy in stay busy fight.

Benavidez would be the WBC belt holder if WBC Guy was interested in integrity instead of money cuz Canelo wouldn't dropped that belt to if it was sent to a purse bid.

Its hilarious how boxing works tho. Benavidez is clearly the most deserving guy to be fighting next for a belt at 168, but somehow Scull finds himself in that position. Lmfao.
