Crazy to think Fury first became a world champ in 2015. Over the next 9 years he only had 2 world title defenses against people he didn't face before - namely Dillian Whyte and Usyk.
Sure, Fury vacated those 2015 titles without ever rematching Wladimir or having a single title defense. He failed two drug tests and got banned for 18 months so he had no choice but to vacate or get stripped. But he returned to win a title again in 2020.
In all that time, he only defended the title twice against people he never previously faced. Ngannou doesn't count because that wasn't even sanctioned as a title fight and they were never going to let Ngannou get the W anyway, even though ironically most people thought he beat Fury too.
9 years.. 2 world title defenses against new opponents. And one of them beat him. There's a reason Fury fought Wilder and Chisora 3 times each rather than fight a steady stream of fresh top 10 opposition...
