If as unfair to blame Canelo for not fighting Benavidez

This sounds more like a fan of certain fighters than being a fan of the sport. Seems to me like you just don't want him to take challenges he could potentially lose so Bivol's win over him seems unique and impossible to replicate by the time he retires.

If Canelo wants to pick who he wants to fight, he shouldn't withhold an entire division and let the belts go if he isn't willing to fight his mandatories. Doesn't matter how long he has fought and accomplished , if he want's to be considered a current top fighter he should fight top opposition.

In this US based forum you find alot of Canelo haters obviously, they prefer the American born fighter and Canelo has been on top of the sport for a damn long time. Benavidez needs to create more demand for that fight, if he destroys Gvozdyk, he has the option to fight for 175lb undisputed or move down again and try to get Canelo. The question is, will Benavidez even be allowed to fight on DAZN? Canelo is the clear A Side, he only had a one fight deal with PBC for Munguia, he might be back with Eddie for his next couple fights. Benavidez keeps yapping how he is loyal to Al Haymon and so on.

Canelo is a veteran with 60+ pro fights. I only blame WBC for not stripping him.

The above pretty much sums up my feelings on the subject. He's at the end of a long, hard career and is in a fortunate position to be able to choose what he wants to do. It's hardly surprising that he would be selective with his opponent choices.

The governing bodies should do their jobs and force the fights or strip him though. The contenders deserve their opportunities, otherwise what's the point in being ranked the number 1 contender?
