  • Comments Thread For: 'Sucker' Hunch: Hope for Canelo Alvarez-David Benavidez in September?

After Saturday's heartening win over a much younger and bigger opponent in Jaime Munguia, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez may (finally) be in the mood to entertain the idea of a 168-pound unification fight with David Benavidez.

That would be great but Benavidez fights in June. So they wouldn’t be able to fight in September. They’re Mexican and Mexican-American fighters, they should fight in May or September. And I do not want to see this fight in September with only 3 months of rest/training for Benavidez because then that would be Canelo haters excuse is to why Benavidez lost.

Throw enough money and they'll accept.
Carnela has done it before with kovalev who fought yarde 1 month before and callum Smith with a short training camp.
But either way it'll be bumavidez fault for accepting it if it were to happen.

And a big guy like David is not going up to 175 to come back down as he would have a lot of trouble making 168 again.

Canelo has to be convinced and I doubt he fights Benavidez other than for ****** money. Canelo is one of the most protected Champions in History. His limited most believe he lost the 1st 2 fights against GGG and arguably could of lost against Lara which was close. Got exposed by Bivol that's why the rematch didn't happen, Mayweather proved he'll be no more than a Good Champion not a Great one. He will never pass Chavez as the greatest Mexican Champion of all time.

Everybody is worried that Benevidez won't have enought time, enough rest after a June fight, if a Canelo match materializes in last September. That's all based on the dismissal of Gvozdyk, which is no given. If Benevidez sleeps on his next foe, he'll get all the rest everybody is worried about. Otherwise, should he prevail, should the unlikely occur and Canelo offers him a September date, Bene needs to pull up his socks and pretend it's the 1980's.

Alvared has no intentions of fight Benavidez. Never has and never will. there's only two fights left in clenelo's boxing career. Charlo and Berlanga

Canelo would certainly beat Benavidez if they signed to fight a few months after the latter's fight with Gvozydyk.

If he beat Gvozydyk, he'd have just the rest of June to rest, then have to train again. It would not make a difference if he knocked out Gvozydyk inside a few rounds.

But if he'd a hard fight, and then still going back down in weight, ah, he'd be weakened.

Not as much as Roy Jones, when he went from heavyweight back to light heavyweight. Roy eked out a decision against Tarver in that bout, and got hit more than we had ever seen.

As much as we all want to see Alvarez v Benavidez, and regardless of what our individual sentiments and picks are, I wonder if anyone outside of North America (read USA & Mexico) care enough to warrant some Saudi "prince" to put up $200 million or whatever the eff it takes. If it happens it happens, and I probably won't be paying the fcuk-all PPV price anyways.
