  • Comments Thread For: Cinco or Swim? Ranking Canelo's Cinco De Mayo Performances

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez didn't just grab the torch of boxing superstardom from his former promoter Oscar De La Hoya and his first professional conqueror Floyd Mayweather. He also inherited the Cinco de Mayo weekend headlining gig from them.

Nice article the wins over Saunders and Jacobs were elite but the Mosley win I remember I was very underwhelmed still can’t knock his achievements.

I thought the Saunders win was very good. Many people, perhaps not betting people, felt Saunders was all wrong for Canelo. It was a time when you could easily find people on boxing forums saying Canelo wouldn't beat the BJS that dominated Lemiuex, and I think the BJS that showed up against Canelo was every bit as good and even snuck in a bigger ring last minute. Great win for Canelo imo.

Billy Joe Saunders was nothing special and coming off a long layoff, he was awarded a chance to win a vacant 168lb WBO belt against a no hoper in order for the WBO to get that Canelo $$$.

His best win is David Lemieux, a guy who got stopped by Rubio on ESPN Friday Night Fights.

Canelo fans always make Canelo’s opponents seem like hall of famers

When society builds up people like Canelo or Taylor Swift into untouchable "superstars" it ruins them. They start believing they are gods.
