  • Comments Thread For: Vergil Ortiz Sr. Sees Plenty of Tim Tszyu in His Son

Vergil Ortiz Sr is the trainer and proud father of Vergil Ortiz Jr, who on Saturday knocked out Thomas Dulorme to set the stage for his fight against Tim Tszyu in Los Angeles on August 3. It appears Ortiz (21-0, 21 KOs) and Tszyu (24-1, 17 KOs) share a mutual respect leading into their bout. They perhaps do so partly because of the violence they likely expect. "We trained Vergil as a kid to go to hell and back - and kept him there," reflected his father. "So for him to be so violent is just natural to him - it is like breathing."

This should be a wild fight. It was almost like since the future was written for Ortiz with his upcoming bout against Tszyu, that he couldn't lose against Dulorme or even look SLIGHTLY bad. He blitzed through Dulorme like he was putting on a promo video for his Tszyu bout. Can't wait to see them two collide.

About both of them, but some different questions for each.

It's hard to say what condition Ortiz is in, he's had his somewhat serious health issues; he's been matched very carefully since coming back and hasn't managed to make 154. Tszyu has to be favourite.

Vergil Ortiz Jr so far has performed well so far, true he hasn't made 154 yet but the catchweights are relatively close at 156 and looked healthier than he did at 147 in the day of the weigh in.

Think he be ready and prepared with his third camp in RGBA to pull an upset on Tim.

Ortiz is physically longer, stronger and sharper. Plus his technical skills can be can be on par with those of the Aussie's. Tszyu might prove me wrong, but shall see after the fight happens.

Fighting a legit 154 guy is much different than beating all bum Ortiz jr. has beaten.

              Ortiz jr. is totally unproven.

Know he contends at Welterweight, but Egidijus Kavaliauskas stands at the same height and reach as Tim Tszyu.

Mean Machine also had stated he cuts 30 pounds during camp to make 147.

Held a record a 22-1-1, with 18 knockouts. That loss being against Terrance Crawford who had been buzzed and troubled in the first 5 rounds until Bud adapted and took him out in the 9th round.

Should be in on par with the Brian Mendoza win.

Should be a high- skilled firefight. Both have power and the desire to inflict it. Both have been buzzed and/or dropped trying to inflict that power.

I like both and think highly of them. Will be hard to see one lose but I will enjoy the violence of it and commend the willingness of both to engage in these firefights.

I remember that Cotto / Torres fight . I was in Muscle Shoals Alabama ,with my girlfriend and her kid, refugees from Hurricane Rita. Cotto had to fight hard and dig deep to win that one.
If Tszyu vs Ortiz is like that , it will be in good company. I have a feeling that it's going to be a heck of a good fight. Both of these guys are Must See TV.
