Saudi take over of boxing will save the sport

This has been a long time coming.

For years we have had such bull**** going on-

    A-side/B-side **** holding up fights

PBC/Top rank "other side of the street" **** holding up fights.

Young pretenders copying floyd and refusing fight after fight after fight (looking mainly at Gervonta type guys here)

Now there is money there to force all the best most exciting fights, and if the PBC guys refuse then they will just get frozen out.

I'm so glad to see the end of the Haymon/Arum chokehold on the sport.

The aligning with 2 belt groups now was interesting to me. That suggests they might have bigger goals then they are advertising thus far.

I assume if anyone could offer these belt groups a deal they couldn't refuse like to cut the bs & align for the greater good of boxing (& a nice salary) its the Saudis.

I love what they're doing, but I'm a little concerned. What is their ultimate goal? They're not getting any ROI on the purses they're paying. So this can't last forever.

The only true sport they have is soccer, international-wise. There are a few Arab countries that pump millions in bodybuilding with no return. Are they looking to make boxing their #1 sport? Saudi spending 1 billion over 2 years to set the stage is nothing more than a write-off against their 400+ billion in oil sales yearly.

From what I gather, they appear to be trying to be visitor friendly and off some amenities to visitors similar to Dubai.

I've side they need to build a 10 square mile entertainment complex. They allow women to drive now so they may be well lax things a bit and boxing may be the cornerstone sport.

We shall see but I don't think they need boxing to be profitable if their ultimate goal is to be a mini more conservative version of Dubai.

If I had 1B or 5B or whatever the Turki boxing budget is with the goal of taking over boxing, as the TS suggested not you obviously, I'd do exactly what he he is doing more or less & looking to attract all the interest he's attracted so far. And then at some point when I got enough big names working with me I'd start signing them to long team deals while buying out the big promotions. You could easily have a monopoly on boxing in a few years & then all the money is coming your way + you have market control to even out the purses.

That said who fooking knows if they got designs like that, but if they don't than as to your concerns they just keep doing these shows as pageantry for Riyadh season til they get tired of it. They are doing all kinds of sh^t over there to build up this multi month festival & got money to burn to do it.

So to them boxing as a novelty thing it could be more about their interest in boxing waining more than running out of money. Or if Turki dies, hes alleged to have or have had a serious illness, so if the guy who replaces him doesn't give a fook about boxing but loves standup comedy Bill Burr & David Chappelle maybe making boxer money over there in 5yrs & boxing isn't anymore.
