As an amateur, Villa compiled a record of 116–17, winning two U.S. National Golden Gloves Championships and competing at the U.S. Olympic Trials. He held notable wins over Shakur Stevenson, and Devin Haney.
As a professional boxer, after four years after debuting he had compiled 18 wins over Alexei Collado, an undefeated Jose Enrique Vivas and Luis Alberto Lopez prior to being upset by Emanuel Navarrete at 23 years old.
Navarette won the fight by unanimous decision, slightly edging Villa on the strength of two knockdowns. He first knocked Villa down with a left uppercut near the end of the first round, while the second knockdown was the result of a left hook in the fourth round. Two of the judges scored the fight 114–112 in his favor, while the third judge awarded him a 115–111 scorecard. Navarrete landed 163 to Villa's 131 total punches, while the difference in power punches landed was far more pronounced, with Navarrete landing 131 to Villa's 58. During the post-fight interview, Navarette called for a title unification bout with the IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington.
After his loss, he was inactive for two years until he was headlining a card under a promotion called Path of Glory, he was unable to fight until he was signed by Top Rank again in May of 2023. So far 2 of 3 fights he has gotten knockouts
He is going to fight this Saturday to become the ranked number 1 contender at WBC by fighting Cristian Cruz (22-6-1).
He will turn 27 years old next week aswell.
