  • Hopkins scared of Roy Jones Jr.

Bernard Hopkins was on the Calvin Murphy radio show August 20th and an associate of Roy Jones Jr. got hold of Roy so he called in to join the conversation that soon turned into a fight negotiation. Jones came to the conclusion that "Bernard is scared," and here are some highlights…

Bernard Hopkins: Money has been the issue for the past ten years with us.
Roy Jones: How much will you give me
BH: I will make it a 60:40 split
RJ: How about 60 to the winner and 40 to the loser
BH: Now you want to make a contest out of it. I don’t need Roy Jones. It could wind up in the judges hands and you never know what will happen.
    RJ: You pick the judges.
BH: If RJ will take 40, we can get it done before the year is out. But if not…
RJ: He already has an L on his record from me and he is trying to make me take 40 so he can prove that I am the lesser man. But if will make it 60 to the winner and 40 to the loser I will take my chances with that.
BH: Do you think I would make more money fighting Roy Jones than I would a young stud like Adamek or Dawson?
RJ: Bernard doesn’t want to fight me. Why would he want to fight me? He’s having fun now at this point in his career. He doesn’t want to take that gamble.
BH: Is Roy willing to go on record to take 40% win, lose or draw?
Show Producer: How about the winner-take-all?
RJ: That’s even better for me.
Show Producer: Bernard are you there?
RJ: No. When you said winner-take-all you ran him off the phone. He’s been doing that to me for 5 years now. He disappeared. That’s what happens to me. every time.

While Bernard did look bad on that show I highly doubt he is scared of Roy.

    Will probably beat him too.

I dont think bernard is scared but i feel that he will not win the fight. even though their both older roy will use the same tool in the rematch that he used in the first fight, speed. bernard showed in his fight with calzaghe that he cant handle fast fighters anymore. roy wont throw as many punches as cal did but he we still throw combos and outwork hopkins. i feel this rematch took too long and i doubt alot of people will purchasr the pay per view. but who knows it might actually turn out to be a decent fight.

Hopkins has been beating about the bush for so long now he has turned into a rhododendron. He really sickens me. He's all talk now. "I should fight Dawson...no, I should fight Jones...on the other hand, a fight with Adamek would do me good!"

He's not too confident either or else he would accept. I guess what else can you expect from fighters that can't knock nobody out.

naw bernard is scared. 60-40 will get his ass kicked. if you watch the first fight.. you will notice (if you havent already) bernard does everything by the book... because of that he was predictable for roy. and roy countered him very well.. roy also looked really good against jeff lacy.. roy looked better against lacy than bhop did against pavlik. i realize pavlik and lacy are not equal, but it scared bhop to see roy do that to lacy more than it scared roy to see bhop school pavlik.. thats why roy is saying he will fight winner take all, he knows he has a good chance of winning despite who says he's old, shot, etc. he knows how to beat bernard, bernard does not know how to beat roy other than a glenn johnson which would get him KOed, or a tarver which is very unlike bernard. he's not scared of getting hit, he's scared of losing.. kind of like floyd

Has he ever mentioned Danny Green? Think not. I bet he knows Green would whoop his ass. Even Jones isn't a safe bet against Green.

I disagree. Jones looked like a child talking out of turn about nonsense. He's still not even a viable opponent. This fight is a a step down for Hopkins and he knew it on that show. He's going to hype it now but still. Jones has no chance.

What do you mean even Jones? Jones is a washed up fighter who hasn't beaten a decent opponent in 7 years.

People forget that the last top LHW Jones looked good against was Clinton Woods.
