Comments Thread For: Oscar De La Hoya Urges Jake Paul to Take Boxing, Mike Tyson Seriously

Oscar De La Hoya has urged Jake Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) to take boxing seriously after Paul's promotional firm, Most Valuable Promotions, announced that the Youtube star turned boxer will face former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Paul should ask Ngannou if he should take boxing seriously.

At least he's still fighting boxers. Lol. Even if Tyson is ancient, that old man still moves and reacts better than 98% of average dudes nowadays based on his more recent training videos IMO. But training is training. The last thing to go is power and he sounds like he still got them heavy hands. Personally, if this is serious, feel like Tyson could really KO Paul as long as he doesn't get clocked himself. Crazy to say, but this definitely has some intrigue to it.

Much older, but if serious, Tyson knocks him out. It might sound nuts, but I think, even at his age, he can do it.

it isn't about the sport. It's about facing the guy who will make him the most money. I'm not defending it. This is what boxing has become. Borderline professional wrestling entertainment.

Mike Tyson should be pulled out after that Ngannou fight. We need to stop these dumb fights now. No one wants to see an old boxing great get beaten up by a Youtuber.

Allowing Jake Paul to fatten his wallet by leveraging Tyson's fame is really scummy. If only boxing commissions were responsible for fighter safety. But realistically, that's not their primary directive. And without that framework of decency, an aged fighter like Mike Tyson can sign that lucrative contract even though the next punch could see him suffer lifetime damage.

A boxing union that could enforce a boilerplate provision in any pro fight contract that stipulates a lifetime pension, paid equally by the promoter and commission, to the family of any boxer who dies or sustains permanent injury... that would kill these ****** exhibitions (and egregious mismatches).

Now that Canelo and Crawford are confirmed to be fighting cans, Jake Paul is the only thing keeping boxing relevant. It's sad, but that's what the sport has been reduced to.

Because only Canelo and Crawford give boxing relevance? You better get used to the idea that Crawford will retire soon and Canelo is past his best.
