What can happen if Pacquiao loses to Cotto?

What can happen if Pacquiao loses to Cotto

Financially speaking, a Pacquiao loss to Cotto would mean big money in the bank for Bob Arum and Manny Pacquiao. Some of you may be asking, "what the heck is Cooney talking about?" Well let us look at the possibilities of what could happen if Manny does lose to Cotto.

A loss would almost mandate a rematch. If Manny were to lose to Cotto, it would probably happen in the first fight. Pacquiao's camp has not been void of some distractions over in The Philippines, so if a loss is in the works it would more than likely happen in this fight. That being said, this would set up a big Cotto rematch for Pacquiao to reclaim the top spot. If Manny were to win the rematch, that sets up the big trilogy fight. This is some serious jack in the bank for all the players, Pacquiao, Arum, Cotto and the rest of both teams. To have three fights between Pacquiao and Cotto would earn the players involved multiples of millions of dollars. Pacquiao may have three to four fights left in his career, so why not cash in while the getting is good?

Let us not forget about a possible Mayweather scenario either. If Pacquiao loses to Cotto a trilogy may be in order. Upon completion of the trilogy it very well may set up a Pacquiao vs Mayweather final chapter fight. Pacquiao may end his career in the ring against Floyd Mayweather Jr, but not until two or possibly even three fights against Cotto happens first. It's not an entirely crazy hypothesis.

I know Pacquiao fans pretty well, and I am guessing that if their beloved Manny lost to Cotto, they would demand a rematch. So it would not be much of a sell to get the fans on board with it. So if the rematch happens and Manny comes back and evens up the score, Arum would see the dollar signs in a trilogy fight. At that point Manny would probably have two more fights left before he hung up his gloves to pursue his political career. The last two fights of Manny's career could possibly be between Miguel Cotto as the third part of their trilogy, and a final goodbye fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Hey, you never know.

Pac has options with a few small fights at 140 and then maybe a big fight with Bradley if his name becomes big. Marquez if he grows up to 140 over time.

Cotto has SSM, Berto, Collazo, Floyd, Williams and a Marg rematch to deal with. If he wins all of them, I'm putting him in my top 100 ATM list.

I agree that a trilogy can happen, but I just don't think it will. Floyd won't wait around for that and I'm sure that Arum will not let the Pacman/Mayweather fight get away if negotions seem to favorable at the time. Plus, having Cotto win can set up Cotto for just about any fight he wants and this will give Arum two giant cash cows. He'll definetly have them go in different directions, trying to match up one of them with Mayweather.

That all may depend on how close of a call was the fight. I think Marquez and pacquiao 3 can happen, but I believe his lost to Mayweather might affect that fightf rom happening.

Hehe, I agree with the list but Collazo? Nothing against him but he's not top tier. Cotto's ambitions lie farther than Collazo. William's needs to get past Pavlik also and hope not to become damaged goods in a potential loss. (IMO he'll win and campaign at 160 though)

Not so much that he lost, but how ge lost. That was as bad as I've ever seen. Pacman/Mayweather will probably be on the minds of most parties regardles of a Pacman win.

You forgot something about Gayweather, he cherry pick his opponents and hes too afraid to fight a real welterweight. Gayweather only fights blown-up LW and JRWW at the most.

                  Peace

Pacquiao won't be round for much longer, in fact if he is still fighting in 3 years time I will be surprised.

Beats Cotto then faces Mayweather for serious green that will secure him for 10 lifetimes.
