MAGEE SEALS FAIRYTALE COMEBACK
Friday 18th March 2005
Eamonn Magee sealed his fairytale comeback from horrific injuries sustained in a street attack by successfully defending his WBU welterweight title with a comprehensive three-round victory over Denmark's Allan Vester at Belfast's King's Hall.
The 33-year-old has come a long way in the 13 months since suffering a beating that left him with crippling leg injuries - the extent of which led doctors to question whether the Ardoyne man would ever walk again, let alone fight.
But Magee - who dedicated the fight to those who aided him in his recovery - confounded medical opinion to return to the ring and, although his performance understandably looked uncomfortable, he showed sufficient power to put the Dane on the canvas three times in the third round.
Very well done considering the seriousness of his injuries he sustained not too long ago in an attack.
