    Exclusive Joshua Clottey interview!!

    Exclusive 8CN interview: Joshua Clottey
    by Sabrina Montez

Manny Pacquiao's November 14 fight against Miguel Cotto is the most anticipated fight of the year. Former IBF Welterweight Champ Joshua Clottey, the man who recently fought Cotto, gave his opinion on the upcoming Pacquiao/ Cotto match up. Clottey also talks about Shane Mosley, Paul Williams and his December 5th HBO fight. Here is more on my exclusive 8CountNews interview with Joshua Clottey.

S.M: Thanks for joining 8CountNews Joshua. I'm hearing your opponent for your December 5th fight on HBO is possibly against Carlos Quintana. Is that official and have the contracts been signed and finalized?

J.C: No, the contracts haven't been signed yet. I don't know actually if he is going to take it, I don't know it may be money or he may be trying to run away, but I called my manager yesterday and I'm definitely going to fight December 5.

S.M: If you were to fight Quintana he is a lefty. Most fighters have trouble fighting southpaws, why do you have so much success winning against them?

J.C: You see all my life i have learned to fight against southpaws. I remember fighting a guy in Ghana, Africa. He used to be a national team captain in the amateurs and a very good lefty. I fought this guy I used strategy, and he was very good and i beat him. I have never lost to a southpaw in my life.

S.M: Were on the subject of southpaws. Lets talk about a very talented Paul Willliams. Would you be willing to face " The Punisher " in the future?

J.C: Ive always been ready to fight Paul Williams. I know I'm good fighting southpaws. I said a long time ago I wanted to fight Paul Williams. I don't know why he keeps telling people he is the most avoided fighter, because he doesn't want to fight me.

S.M: Maybe he knows your track record with southpaws?

J.C: You know maybe, but I'm ready for it.

S.M: You were pushing to fight Shane Mosley in December and that fell through. You must be disappointed you didn't get that opportunity?

J.C. I really want to fight Shane Mosley. I was in Africa when my manager called me and said I would be fighting Mosley. I've been looking for that fight since 2004. I keep trying but he doesn't want to fight me. He respects me as a boxer. He respects that I'm one of the best welterweights out there. That would be a very good experience for me. If I could fight him I would be very happy.

S.M: Sergio Martinez wanted you to come up in weight at 154 and fight him. Why did you turn down that fight?

J.C: Its not me its my team. They come up with the final decision whether I will fight or not. I don't want to fight Sergio Martinez at 154. Its not my weight, I would have to put on some weight. Sergio Martinez is calling me out. Why should I move up in weight when I'm going to make the same money. Its not about the money, but what am I supposed to do. I would come out and say I would fight Sergio Martinez because he is a good fighter but its not my weight.

S.M: Your last fight was against Miguel Cotto it was a great fight do you feel you won?

J.C: You know the only rounds I felt I lost was round one and six. I never felt like I lost any of the other rounds. He was running from me in the last rounds. He didn't want to fight. If there is no action the fight could never be a fight. They have to consider all that. If I'm waiting for him and hes running away I have to chase him. When he worked and punched they never connected to me. I'm happy at what the boxing fans say and I'm happy with my performance and I'm looking at the future. They wanted to set up the fight with Pacquiao and Cotto.

S.M: You mentioned Pacquiao and Cotto do you have any predictions or thoughts on who will win that fight?

J.C: I fought Cotto and he is a huge guy. Very big and strong. One thing about this fight is that if Pacquiao can take all of Cotto's punches, he is going to win. There is no way Pacquiao is going to run or move around. If he moves around too much some of the punches might get in. Cotto will throw a lot of punches which will create punches for Pacquiao. Only thing I have to say on Cotto's side is that Pacquiao is a little guy. If Pacquiao is not going to take Cotto's punches, then we have a problem and Pacquiao is in trouble. Pacquiao is small in weight. Its because of the media and the money he is moving up and fighting the big guys. Its 50/50.

S.M: Thanks Joshua for taking the time to do this interview.

    J..C: Thank you
