Who should PBC/Amazon hire as the new announcer team?
Personally, I'd like to see:
Analyst: The obvious choice here would be Kellerman, but he seemed to get really negative and cynical towards the end of his boxing run. Plus I don't need to hit about Harry Greb and Willie Pep every other round. Mannix is decent, but not in Bernstein's class; Bernstein is always neutral, and Mannix has obvious favorites. Kregel is a very good writer but not as good on TV. Teddy Atlas seems to hate boxing now.
Fighter: A lot of good choices here. Raul Marqueza is good. Would like to see Roy Jones again, but it seems like his speech patterns are getting harder and harder to understand. Algieri is growing on me, but not quite ready for the big leagues yet. Malignagi seems to have burned too many bridges. Can't stand Bradley - too much yelling and too many ****** opinions. He belongs on First Take or one of the argument shows where they show dumb stuff to create debates. Porter is a Bradley clone with a bigger wardrobe.
Reporter: I don't mind Brian Campbell. Arial Helwani is OK too. But too many of them just ask the obvious easy questions instead of asking what viewers at home want to know. It seems that most interviewers don't want to challenge the fighters. For asking the tough questions, there is no one like Merchant or Gray, and Merchant has retired.
Other: Kate Abdo or Brian Custer as host. Anyone but Brian Kenny.
- Play by play
- Non-fight analyst
- Fighter analyst
- Reporter/interviewer
- Anyone else? Host? Scorer?
Personally, I'd like to see:
- Play by play: Mauro Ranallo
- Analyst: ? Bernstein is the best active analyst, but I'd like to see someone new. Is there a trainer that could work?
- Fighter analyst: Andre Ward
- Reporter/interviewer: Jim Gray
