I believe the hate came from the fact that Delahoya played him on two occasions.

I heard how Vargas looked up to Delahoya as a kid and he seen Delahoya at the Olympics so he went to say what`s up to him Delahoya said something along the lines of"get out of my face kid"

And there was another occasion were they were both jogging and Fernando Vargas tripped and fell and Delahoya just laughed at him and did not help him up.
