    Roy Jones creativity

After the end of Roy's prime he has been willing to come up with and try quite a bit on different things promotionally. He and Calzaghe negotiated and put together their fight themselves, He came up with a combined boxing and MMA card (which i personally don't like). After that he campagined for a Hopkins fight where winning by KO leads to a bigger split of the purse and made it happen. I think this kind of business creativity might be a good thing for the sport of boxing. How do you guys see it, a good thing or just a way for Roy to stay in the spotlight? A little bit of both? Does boxing need more of this kind of thinking?

What I do like is that after 3 losses to tarver and johnson... he didnt look for another big money fight... he fought two nobodys to get back to something, then the tito fight came off, and the he worked himself to get another big fight in joe... after the joe fight, he didnt look for another big money fight, spot light fight... he went and fought sheika, then went and fought lacy... build himself back up, get a few wins under his belt... now another one with Danny Green.. then gets himself a big fight with Bernard.

He at least, trys to earn a big fight by beating a couple of guys first, he doesnt go looking for another big fight immediatly.. he doesnt look or even ask for one... and he definitely could.

RJ just havin fun. I thought after his crash in 04 he was gonna turn to promotin altogether, and I was kinda disheartened to see him stay in the sport. But it's nice to know it ain't just about $ for him. He knows he ain't what he was, but accepts it and still has the heart to fight. I still wish he'd walk cuz I hate knowin somebody as gr8 as him is basically a journeyman now, but he just doin what he gotta do to live up his last few yrs in the game. I can respect that.

True. It reminds me a bit of Ali working his way back to his title after being stripped of it, first earing a shot at Frazier and then Foreman. He seems to enjoy it to.

How dare you speak of Roy that way! Calling Roy a journeyman? Roy is an entertainer, straight up. Every fight is like a concert, its not about winning and losing anymore, its about putting on a good show for the fans. You won't see him go for the early KO, because thats not what the fans want to see. They want a full fight of Roy, and thats what he delivers. Its like a Broadway show.
