  • If Roy Jones Jr. would have retired after Tarver I, how would you rank him?

I heard that if Roy was about to get KOed by Tarver in the rubber match, it was gonna kill his legacy. What is that? I think a fighter's achievements are enough to judge it on that, not on what he's done when shot.

Still if Roy would have retired after Tarver I, he would be virtually(DQ against Griffin) undefeated with wins over: Hopkins, Ruiz, Tarver, Toney, Virgil Hill, McCallum.
    I consider that top ATG.

How would you rank him if this scenario would have occured?
    13
    Top 10 Atg
    23.08%
    3
    Top 20 ATG
    30.77%
    4
    Top 30 ATG
    0.00%
    0
    Top 40 ATG
    23.08%
    3
Roy Jones Jr. is not an ATG

Roy is (almost) the GOAT in that scenario.

If he retired after the Tarver fight he would of missed out on Jeff Lacy. i now have him top 5 ATG after beating Lacy and Sheika

I thought that too but i can't believe it. Imagine Roy having the same aura of invinciilty as Mayweather with his resume, and the heavyweight trip, i'm sure that **** would have influenced people's rankings.

I rank him 18/19 right now, i would probably rank him 12/13 in that scenario.

Seriously, the same. He clearly wasn't the same during/ after the Tarver fight. We gotta accept that people can get out of their prime early, SRL is a good example of that. Not everyone is B-Hop.

To make it more interesting after he beat Ruiz at heavyweight in 2003 there was a small window of opportunity to fight Mike Tyson, remember Tyson had loss to Lewis but then beat Clifford Etienne at the time, so this would have been a year before he lost to bums Danny Williams & Kevin McBride. There was still a lot of publicity for Tyson and people still thought of his as one of the baddest heavyweights out there, despite the fact he was past it. The fight would have been HUGE and there was a real chance Jones could have beat an older Mike Tyson.

SOOOO if that were to happen Jones would have been 49-1, with his only loss being a DQ which really should have been a win.

IF he would have retired then, it would have been difficult to dispute that he wasn't a top 20, or even top 10 fighters of ALL TIME.
