Comments Thread For: Callum Smith: "Ability and Technically, Canelo's Probably Better But Beterbiev Is A Bigger, Stronger Man"

As an undefeated champion, Callum Smith was convinced that he simply couldn't be touched. It was hard to fault him for his line of thinking. At 168 pounds, Smith racked up big-time wins over George Groves and John Ryder. Canelo Alvarez, however, looked up at the towering belt holder and wanted his championship status.

I'm hoping Smith can put up a decent fight tonight. Can he win? Doubt it!

I hope Smith doesn't truly believe that.
If so he's in for a rude awakening tonight.

Smith struggled with Canelo's speed and defence/countering. Beterbiev is a different fighter and will pose different problems. I'm looking forward to this fight.

Of course he said "Canelo is better than Beterbiev". He needs to believe that.

Because if Beterbiev is better than Canelo, and Canelo already beat Smith comfortably, then this whole event is a pointless foregone conclusion. Smith has to lie to himself. Boxers have to lie to themselves when facing generational talents, just to pump themselves enough to even bother turning up.

                I don't think so

Then again what big punchers has he taken flush shots from?

Canelo Is a decent puncher but never really caught him flush on the chin, more to the arms and body.

Groves could **** but he had one good arm when he fought Smith

so im not really sure if his chin has been properly tested from someone that can crack.

Canelo is a more technical fighter than Beterbiev. But canelo also likes to dictate a slow pace and only throw a couple of punches at a time, and smith was compliant in allowing canelo to do that. Beterbiev comes to kill and overwhelm. If Smith isn’t in excellent condition and prepared to be less passive than he was against canelo, he’s in deep shyt.

Smith was that passive against Canelo it's hard to get too excited about this one.

He could be very dangerous for Beterbiev but there has to be big risks taken for him to catch him with the kind of left hook that could put Beterbiev down and maybe out. He's a legitimate ****er Smith but to win you'd think he'd have engage Beterbiev the way that Serbian dude did - forget his name. He caught Beterbiev cleanly in exchanges that if someone like Smith caught him with he could hurt him.

Smith can't fight long really I dont think he would have beaten a younger George Groves without the injuries either. Never seen him settle behind a jab.

His best punches are a left hook hook to the body and catch and counter left hook. You could see him getting chances to land both if he accepts that he might get hurt himself.

I just don't want him to be passive and get broken down and stopped anyway because he likely will be stopped if he doesnt stop Artur.

It is a big time gut check at world class level.
