  • Comments Thread For: Catterall-Hitchins: IBF Purse Bid Once Again Postponed, Now Jan. 18

Another week, another delay. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the Jack Catterall-Richardson Hitchins IBF purse bid was postponed by another week to January 18. The session was scheduled for Thursday, already a nine-day extension from the original January 2 date for their ordered junior welterweight title eliminator.

Seems odd that a match-up would have to go to purse bids when both fighters have the same promotor. Surely Matchroom don't want a situation where the fight is taken on by a rival? Maybe, one party is overstating their value so Matchroom are letting the market decide by going to a purse bid.

With Hitchins already admitting he won't actually face Matias what's the point in him taking part of a eliminator?

Most of the article is fluff. The last paragraph Hitchinson says he won't fight Matias for the IBF because of the IBF's rehydration clause.

So i'm not sure if he's totally opposed to facing him but rules out fighting him for the IBF title.

Hitchins is terrified of Subriel Matias. He doesn’t want to go the IBF route.

I'm not saying Catterall won't fight Hitchins... but all of this feels like a stall tactic with hopes that a Taylor rematch can get finalized.

I get the impression none of these guys want to see Matias.

Kinda like how Boots went the IBF route when the WBO was about to make him Crawford's mandatory after Ortiz's mysterious medical issues.
